Sandelin Named an Assistant Coach for 2026 U.S Collegiate Selects Team - UMD Athletics University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey head coach Scott Sandelin will revisit his Spengler Cup roots in December after the Bulldog bench boss was named an assistant coach for the 2026 U.S. Collegiate Selects staff for the team that will compete in Davos, Switzerland in December.

The UMD Athletic Department will induct 11 members into hallowed Hall of Fame this September, a group of former Bulldog athletes that drove UMD into to both the national and international stages, respectively.

The Class of 2026 includes John and Colleen Economos (Football/Baseball, Longtime Bulldog Supporters) Clare Dahmen (Soccer), John Fulkrod (Head Men's and Women's Coach, Cross Country and Track and Field), Mike Hirschey (Wrestling), Kurt King (Football), Kate (Lange) Sterns (Volleyball), Jocelyne Larocque (Women's Hockey), Kim (Martin) Hasson (Women's Hockey), Rick Menz (Men's and Women's Hockey Equipment Manager), and Alex Stalock (Men's Hockey).

The the 2026 UMD Athletic Hall of Fame Class will be inducted on Friday, Sept. 18, 2026 in a ceremony inside Weber Music Hall. Congratulations to our newest class!

The UMD men’s hockey team has announced an exhibition game against the US National Under-18 Team on Saturday, Dec. 5 at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth. Game time is set for 7:07 p.m.

The UMD Ticket Office will communicate in the near future on the ticket process for this additional game. Single game tickets for the men’s hockey season will go on sale September 15th. For questions, fans can contact the UMD Ticket Office.

The Bulldogs will drop the puck on the 2026-27 season on Oct. 3 at AMSOIL Arena against Long Island University.

UMD and men’s hockey head coach Scott Sandelin have agreed to a contract extension that will keep Sandelin behind the Bulldog bench through the 2029-30 season. Sandelin most recently signed a contract extension in June of 2022.

Sandelin concluded his program-record 26th season with the Bulldogs this past March by directing UMD to its 12th NCAA tournament appearance under his leadership. The team posted an overall record of 24-15-1 in 2025-26, made a postseason run to the NCAA Regional Final and were runners-up in the NCHC Frozen Faceoff postseason tournament.

A total of 10 UMD men’s hockey freshmen and transfers were added to the Newcomer 2025-26 NCHC Honor Roll Thursday, with seven players earning Distinguished Scholar-Athletes status.

The players were freshman forward Hunter Anderson, freshman forward Luke Bibby, junior defenseman Brady Cleveland, sophomore goaltender Ethan Dahlmeir, graduate forward Kyler Kovich, freshman goaltender Cole Sheffield, freshman defenseman Grayden Siepmann, freshman defenseman Jake Toll, freshman forward Ryan Zaremba and former Bulldog freshman Daniel Shlaine.

Bibby, Dahlmeir, Kovich, Sheffield, Siepmann, Zaremba and Shlaine were also named NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes for having a 3.5 GPA or higher.
