Join us at Cat Care Durango for a special, family-friendly afternoon with local author Cynthia McDowell (Cynthia McDowell / Earthfired Pottery) creator of Earthfired Pottery and author of Tiny Tracks to Home!

Inspired by the true rescue of a feral mama cat and her kittens, Tiny Tracks to Home is a heartwarming children’s coloring book that celebrates rescue, compassion, and finding a safe place to call home.

After the reading, we’ll get creative with a fun coloring activity, learn more about TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and why it is so important for community cats, and then have some time to hang out with our free-roaming rescue cats! 🐱

Last month, we shared a group of kittens who were looking for homes and were being cared for outside of our facility. We’re happy to share that their caregiver has found homes for all but two sweet girls! 🥰

These two cuties have already been spayed and vaccinated at the time of their spay appointments. They would absolutely love to find a home together, as they’re wonderful companions, but they can also be adopted separately.

Happy International Cat Day! 🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛

Today we’re celebrating the cats who make our lives better simply by being their wonderfully weird, fluffy, sassy, sweet selves. 😻

At Cat Care Durango, every day is Cat Day—but today is a pretty great excuse to celebrate our amazing residents a little extra! From playful kittens and goofy young adults to our seniors and sanctuary cats, each one has a story, a personality, and a whole lot of love to give.

And while we celebrate them today, caring for them is a 365-day-a-year commitment. Food, litter, enrichment, medications, veterinary care, and all those little extras that help our cats feel safe, happy, and loved add up quickly.

🧜🏻‍♀️ Ariel Update! 🥹❤️

Ariel has been placed in a temporary foster home! 🏡🐾

After learning that Ariel has a broken back, we knew she needed a quiet, safe place to rest, heal, and receive the extra care she deserves. Thanks to an incredible foster family, she’s exactly where she needs to be.

We are so grateful for the foster parents who open their hearts and homes to kittens with special medical needs. Their compassion gives animals like Ariel the chance to heal surrounded by love.

Ariel’s journey is far from over, but she’s safe, loved, and we’ll continue to share updates along the way. 🧜🏻‍♀️💕

🧜‍♀️ An Update on Ariel ❤️

Yesterday, we introduced you to a tiny kitten we named Ariel. 🧜‍♀️ At the time, we believed she likely had Manx syndrome because she couldn’t use her back legs.

Yesterday, Ariel saw our veterinarian, and we received some unexpected news.

X-rays revealed that Ariel actually has a broken back.

We don’t know exactly how it happened, but we do know the injury occurred before the kind woman who found her brought her to safety. The good news is that, despite her injury, Ariel is bright, alert, eating well, and doesn’t appear to be letting her circumstances define her. She’s a feisty little girl with a lot of spirit.

Right now, her biggest challenge is that her bladder doesn’t empty on its own, so she will likely need her bladder expressed several times a day for the rest of her life. Thankfully, she is able to pass stool on her own, although not always on a predictable schedule.

Our team is working closely with our veterinarian to learn everything we can about her long-term needs and to determine what will give Ariel the very best quality of life. As always, our only goal is to do what is best for Ariel.

Rescue is full of surprises. Some are joyful, and some are heartbreaking. But every once in a while, a tiny life comes along that reminds us just how resilient animals can be.

Ariel has already overcome so much in her short six weeks of life and she has an entire community cheering her on.

Thank you to everyone who has sent kind messages, offered advice, and kept this tiny little mermaid in your thoughts. Your support means more than you know.

🧜‍♀️ Meet Ariel… our tiny little mermaid with a story that has already stolen all of our hearts. ❤️

When Ariel arrived at Cat Care Durango, we knew immediately that she was special. Our best estimate is that she is around 8 weeks old, but her tiny body tells a different story. She appears to be severely underdeveloped and malnourished, making her look much younger than she actually is.

Ariel may also have a condition called Manx syndrome, but we won’t know for certain until she has further testing. She has her first veterinary appointment today, and we are eager to learn more about what she needs to give her the happiest, healthiest life possible.

Ariel is a fighter. Despite everything she has been through, this little girl is full of love. She has completely captured our hearts, and we are committed to giving her the care, patience, and support she needs.

Special needs kittens often get overlooked because people worry about the unknown. They wonder, “Will they have a normal life?” “Will they be too much work?” “Can they really be happy?”

The answer is: YES. ❤️

Cats with special needs can live incredibly happy, fulfilling lives. They play, cuddle, explore, bond with their people, and bring just as much joy as any other cat. Sometimes they just need someone willing to look past their differences and see the amazing little soul underneath.

Ariel’s journey is just beginning, and we would love for you to be part of it.
