What heroes in our midst!
Never forget! Every single effort brought comfort & a step toward healing.
25 years later. On 9/11/2001 I was a young ballerina with New York City Ballet on the third leg of an incredible international tour. We had arrived in Parma, Italy and hadn’t even begun our performances when the Towers were hit. No one had cell phones or social media. My friends and I went into a cafe for lunch and the local Italians already knew. When they told us the news it was Fear. Terror. Confusion. I found a phone somewhere to call my Mom and Dad, learn more and let them know that I was ok. None of our lives would ever be the same. Getting home was slow and difficult. There were no flights. Everything was standing still. When we made it back to NY the skyline was broken. The smell was horrible, even all the way uptown. I spent a few days back in Charlotte with my parents but felt like I needed to be in New York. Helping. In any way I could. American Red Cross got me trained and I was off to ground zero to do what I could in one of their outposts there. I worked with first responders and other volunteers. The guys would come in covered in debris from the site. We served meals and offered comfort. It was the least I could do. Today my morning in South Carolina was a happy one. Bustling. Kids to school, a baby at home. Meals, lunches, work, workouts, family. Those victims, first responders, LEO and their families lost everything that day. No more happy mornings or afternoons or time together. It is heartbreaking. I pray that 25 years later, their loved ones are able to find peace. May we all pause today in their memory. May they Rest in Peace. Never forget. 🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸
