And we are off and running!!!! We will start this week with sending out one last call for the golf tournament on Sunday, September 20th. We have room for 2 more groups and are looking at tee times of 1:30 and 1:40. Please reach out ASAP if you would like to join us. We will start our weekly athletic report with Field Hockey who had the honor of playing the first game on the new turf and we couldn’t have asked for a better outcome with Peyton Swanson scoring the game winner in overtime with 21 seconds left on the clock to earn a hard fought 2-1 win over Amity. Mia Lloyd tied the game at 1 early in the third quarter on an assist from Sophia Gibson. Congrats to returning head coach Amy Lloyd on getting the win in her return leading the program. They finished the week falling to Guilford before rebounding with a big win vs Old Saybrook to start the season 2-1. They travel to Killingly Tuesday at 4:45 and host Stonington Thursday at 5:30🏑

The reigning Class L Volleyball State Champion Vikings got their season started with a win at home versus Farmington 3–1. Emma Knowlton had 18 kills, Bella Albert had 7 kills and 3 aces, Olivia Diep had 13 digs and 5 aces, Natalie Knowlton had 14 kills and 10 digs and Savannah Marusov had 40 assists. They fell to Griswold later in the week before rebounding with a 3-1 win vs Ledyard Friday to get off to a 2-1 start on the season. They travel to NFA Monday at 6:00, host Fitch Wednesday at 5:30 and travel to Newton Friday at 5:30🏐

Boys Soccer started their season with a 3-0 win at Windham and fell to Stonington 3-1 in their home opener. Tom Butler, Austin Greeno, Callum Dunne all scored in the Windham win while Jubran Saad had 6 saves in the shutout. Logan Wallace had the lone goal in the Stonington loss. They travel to Woodstock Academy Monday at 4:00, host Waterford Wednesday at 6:00 in the annual ALS Cup and host Ledyard Saturday at 1:30⚽️

Girls Soccer started their season with a 1-1 tie at NFA. Sadie Eident scored on an assist from Camryn Denucci. They host Bacon Academy on Tuesday at 6:00 and travel to Plainfield Friday at 4:00⚽️

Girls Swim and Dive traveled to North Haven for their season opener and came away with a 93-93 tie. Peyton Maynard was a double winner taking the 200 yard IM and the 100 yard free. Sylvi Otter won the diving event with a score of 252.80. They travel to Amity Wednesday at 6:45 and travel to Haddam Killingworth Friday at 3:45🏊‍♀️

Football fell to Woodstock on the road Friday to start their season. Senior kicker Finn Bruno was 2-2 on FG's (25 & 32 yards) and 1-1 on extra points. Jacob Palermo led the defense with 6 tackles, 3 tackles for loses, 1 sack and 1 forced fumble. Freshmen quaterback Layne LaCara had 17 carries for 124 yards and was 10-16 passing for 65 yards including his first career passing TD. They host Notre Dame Prep Friday at 6:30🏈

Cross Country gets their season started this week traveling to Ledyard Tuesday at 4:00. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

If you’re in education, you know that we are all fortunate enough to celebrate two New Years. We all get to celebrate the traditional January 1 New Years with everybody else, but we also have the privilege of celebrating a New Year at the end of August each summer when we return back to school. All of us in the Athletic Department are extremely excited for our fall sports seasons to start. All of our teams have started their preseason training in anticipation of our regular seasons starting on September 8.

We will start by updating you all on our turf field upgrade that started immediately after graduation last June. Our contractors are putting on the finishing touches Monday and Tuesday this week and we fully expect to have the track and turf open for all of our teams and the community starting on Wednesday, September 2. We can’t thank the community enough for their support in this incredible upgrade to our facilities. If you travel past the school during the week and on weekends, I’m sure you could see how busy that field is and how much use the community gets out of it. It’s an incredible investment for our Athletic programs as well as the community, thank you to everyone that supported this project. It is something that we can all be proud of.

The other bit of news to share with you, is that the third annual East lyme Athletics Golf Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, September 20 with tee times starting at 11:00am at the Norwich Golf Course. This is also the start of our sponsorship campaign for the year. Our department has been fortunate to have many of our local businesses supplement our budget in the form of sponsorship support. There are many sponsorship opportunities available, please see the attached flyers for info or reach out to the athletic department with question ([email protected] of 860-739-6946 ext 5519). The golf event has grown each year, we hope to make this years event the best one yet. Please consider entering a team or sponsoring the event - or both!!

This cost is $125 per player ($500 per team) and includes golf, cart, tournament gift, prizes and food on the course. We will accept teams until the event is sold out but please register as soon as possible to give us time to prepare for the event.

Our last official post of the year!! To say East Lyme had an incredible sports year would be an understatement at the very least. Viking teams captured 11 ECC tournament championships and 2 state championships, a testament to the commitment from our student-athletes, coaches, families and greater East Lyme community. Thank you all!!

We only have a few games to report from last week. Boys Lacrosse traveled to Waterbury to take on the top seed Weston Trojans in the Class M semifinals. In a back and forth game that came down to the last second, the Vikings fell 7-6 to end their season with an impressive 17-4 record. Gabe Hanney and Finn Bruno had 2 goals each. Nathan Socha and Oliver Ginther each added a goal and goalie Reggie Schwartz had 8 saves. The team had an incredible season, coming within inches of advancing to the finals. 🥍

Our girls golf team qualified fo the state tournement for the 1st time school history finishing 11th overall in the division II championship. Abby Drago led our scorers with a 95, Avery Cordes was just behind with a 97. Look for this team to be one of the top teams in the leavue next year with 4 starters returning.⛳️

We start this week with a milestone never seen before in the state of Connecticut and history being made at Ellington HS last week as long time head coach Judy Deeb led her team to career win #700 in a 2nd round state game winning 14-2. A little history on Coach Deeb:
1995 inductee into the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Third coach in state softball history to achieve 500 wins (following Joe Piazza, Southington (519-69, 26 seasons); and Lou Milardo, Hale-Ray (552-149, 31 seasons); 400th win came on May 2, 2001, a 1-0 victory over Fitch; 500th win came on May 5, 2008, a 3-1 victory over Waterford (and former player Liz Sutman, the Waterford coach); record-setting 553rd career win came on May 11, 2013, a 15-5 win over Ledyard. Inducted to Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame (Sept. 12, 2004) and Connecticut Basketball Hall of Fame (April 20, 2005). Gold Key awarded by the Connecticut Sports Writers’ Alliance (April 23, 2006). Inducted to East Lyme Sports Hall of Fame in inaugural class (Dec. 15, 2013). 600th win came on April 22, 2016, a 16-0 win over Bacon Academy. Retired from teaching 2019.

They saw their season end in the state quarterfinals versus Waterford on friday. They end the season with a 16–9 record and they reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 1997. With no seniors on the roster, the future of this team is very bright. They have outstanding athletes up and down the lineup and in every position. They got better and better each and every game. We look forward to watching them to continue to improve and compete next year.🥎

In the last home game ever played on the old turf at East Lyne High School (replacement turf being installed right after graduation), Boys Lacrosse stormed all the way back from a 0-5 hole to start the game to win their Class M quarterfinal game 15-12 over Joel Barlow Saturday to improve to 17-3 overall on the season. This was a complete team, never give up, effort by everyone.

Girls Tennis was trying to do something no other team has done before - win a state championship in Girls Tennis. They came just a bit short falling to Guilford in the state championship finals 4-3 in an epic match that last over 4 hours. We are so proud of this team for their incredible season and especially their determination last week fighting literally until the end. This match could not have been any closer going back and forth until the very last match. This was the first time they reached the finals since 2012 and third overall (also in 2007). They finished the season with an 18-2 record! Great season ladies, so much to be proud of.🎾

Girls Golf put together a great day finishing 2nd at the ECC Championship last week, only 1 shot behind Woodstock Academy. Avery Cordes led the team with a 47. Not far behind was Savannah Marusov and Alaina Sartori with matching scores of 48. Sadie Eident rounded out the scoring with a 50. They qualified and will be competing at states Monday at Tashua Knolls Golf Club ⛳️

Boys Golf finished 4th at ECCs Thursday at Shennecosset GC with a team score of 320. Caleb Trost led the team with a 78. Karch Kaczor shot 80 while Ethan Legg and Syum Khanna had matching scores of 81 to round out the scoring. They have qualified and will compete in the state championship Monday at Tallwood Country Club ⛳️

Baseball saw their season come to an end in the 2nd round of the state tournament falling 6-3 to New Milford. They finished with an incredible 21-4 record as well as ECC regular season and tournament champions. It’s not the end they had hoped for but we are proud of them⚾️

Boys and Girls track qualifiers competed at the State Open over the weekend. Sam Leone won the Open 1600M Championship with a school record time 4:08.23, Nico Cardello finished 4th with a time of 4:15.26
Both qualified for New Englands next Saturday in North Berwick Maine🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Boys Tennis saw their season end in the state tournament at Avon. They ended the season with an impressive 15-1 record🎾

Girls Lacrosse had their season end in the state quarterfinals falling to Hand. Another solid season for this program overcoming injuries and adversity to win the ECC once again and make it all the way to the state quarterfinals. In the game:

We also learned a bit of great news, the Niche ratings for best high school for athletes in Connecticut came out recently. East Lyme High School came in at #13 overall!!! That is something that can only be possible with the support of so many people in the community, outstanding coaches, dedicated athletes and supportive parents. Thank you to everyone in playing a role in that recognition👏👏

As previously mentioned in this post, we are preparing to have our turf and track replaced this summer. Work is expected to begin shortly after graduation. We are very excited for this upgrade.

Viking Play It Forward will be hosting a free community giveaway event Saturday, June 13 from 11 AM to 3 PM at East Lyme High School in the front parking lot. There will be thousands of gently used FREE athletic items available. This group has been collecting items over the last few years. Please visit the high school Saturday if you are in the market for athletic items for your child, all items are free while supplies last.

What an incredible week for East Lyme Athletics as our teams captured 3 more ECC Tournament Championships🥇That makes 11 ECC Tournament Championships for our teams this year!! No other ECC member school even comes close to that. That speaks volumes about our student-athletes, coaches, our families and the East Lyme community. This type of success would not be possible without everyone playing a role in contributing to that success. Thank you to everyone involved!!

Baseball rode a 6 hit, 6 run 1st inning outburst sending 11 batters to the plate en route to a 10-0 ECC Championship win over NFA on Friday. Aiden Cochrane threw the 5th no hitter of the season for the team earning the win on the mound!!! This was the 4th straight year the team was in the ECC finals, last winning in 2023 and this is Coach Biggs 7th overall tournament title. The pitching was absolutely dominant over the three games of the tournament giving up only two runs and five hits over three games. Andrew Sevigny earned the Tournament Most Outstanding Player Award after throwing a no hitter in the semi finals vs Bacon and adding key hits along in the way. Team improved to 20-3 on the year. They will face face Platt Tech at home on Monday at 3:30 in the first round of the state tournament.⚾️

Boys Lacrosse won their 3rd straight ECC Tournament Championship beating Waterford 16-5 in the finals Thursday. The James Courtney Most Outstanding Player Award was Gabe Hanney.

This program has dominated the league since starting its first varsity season in 2000 winning 22 ECC regular season titles and 18 ECC Tournament Championships👊

They will host EO Smith on Wednesday at 4:30 in round 2 of the Class M state tournament 🥍

Girls Lacrosse won their 6th straight ECC Tournament Championship with a 10-7 win over Montville Thursday. This is the 19th overall tournament championship in program history. It is also the programs 22nd regular season divisional championship👊. The James Courtney Most Outstanding Player Award was Callan Keefe. Callan and Cassidy O’Brien each scored 4 goals. Taylor Kachinsky and Lillian Trost each added a goal.

They travel to St Joes Tuesday for a 4:00pm state game🥍

Softball fell to NFA in the ECC semifinal game. They advanced in the Quarterfinal game by beating Killingly. Emma Knowlton had 3 hits including a double and six RBIs, Lauryn Drago allowed 3 hits and struck out 4 for the win. Kinzie Donahue added 3 hits and scored 3 runs for the Vikings. That was career win #698 for Head Coach Judy Deeb.

They host Wethersfield Monday at 4:15 and round one of the state tournament .🥎

Boys and Girls Tennis added a few more ECC Champions to the trophy case. The doubles team of Eric Lovering and Alex Rindell successfully defended their ECC Championship. On the girls side, Queenie Yang and Angie Chen defeated the sister team of Sophie and Jessica Joe to capture their title. Both teams won their first round state tournament match last Friday. The girls travel to Jonathan Law Monday for a 2 PM match and the boys travel to Avon for a 3:30 match. 🎾

Boys and Girls Golf wrap up their ECC season this week with conference championships. The girls travel to Quinittisset Country Club Wednesday at noon and the boys travel to Shennecossett Golf Club Thursday at noon. ⛳️

Boys and Girls Track competed in tha Class MM State Championships. The boys finished 6th overall while the girls finished 5th. Sam Leone won the 1600M and was part of the winning 4x800 relay team along with Joey Papalia, Adrik Gates and Nico Cardello. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Boys Lacrosse won vs Brien McMahon on Senior Night 9-5 last Tuesday. Thank you to all of our seniors for your dedication to our program and best of luck in your future endeavors. As to for the game, Gabe Hanney had 1 goal and 4 assists, Finn Bruno had 3 goals and an assist, Oliver Gunter and Anthony DiLoreto added goals each. Drew Bookmiller won 13 faceoffs, Nate Socha added 3 more. Reggie Schwartz had 9 saves in goal. The team ended the regular season with a 13-3 record heading into the postseason and ranked #4 in Class M. They will play Fitch on Tuesday in rge ECC semifinals at Waterford HS at 5:00PM with the winner advancing to the ECC finals at 7:30 PM at Montville High School

Girls Lacrosse finished their regular season with a convincing win at Fitch to finish 8-8 on the year heading into the postseason. In the game:

They advanced to the ECC semifinals with a win over Killingly Saturday. They will play Waterford HS Tuesday at 7:15pm at Ledyard HS with the winner advancing to the championship game on Thursday at 5 PM at Montville High School. 🥍

Baseball made the long trip to West Haven on Tuesday and came away with a 14-2 win. They completed the regular season with an 8-0 win at Lyme-Old Lyme to finish with a 17-3 record on Wednesday. Tristan Glover threw a complete game 3 hitter striking out 14 to earn the win. Garrison Biggs led the offense with 2 hits including an RBI double. Nick Cambi added a 3 RBI double. They are the top seed heading into the ECC tournament and will play at Dodd Stadium at 11:00am on Wednesday vs TBD. They finished the regular season ranked 3rd in Class L⚾️

Softball went 3-0 on the week starting with Peyton Swanson hitting for the cycle and scoring 5 Runs to lead the team to a 16-6 victory over Guilford. Kinzie Donahue and Mia Lloyd added 3 hits each for the Vikings. Lauryn Drago gets the win on the mound. They then hosted a tremendously successful Youth Night on Tuesday. Emma Van Dusen had 3 hits including a triple to lead the team to a 9-2 win over Haddam/Killingworth.
Mikaela Richter allowed 5 hits and 1 earned run for the Vikings. Kinzie Donahue added 2 hits. They finished the week traveling to RHAM coming away with a 15-7 win to finish their regular season with a 13-7 record. Natalie Knowlton had 3 hits and 4 RBIs to lead the offense. Peyton had 4 hits while Michaela Richter, Emma Knowlton and Jillian Hintze had multiple hits each. Jillian also earned the win on the mound. With the 3 wins last week, long time head coach Judy Deeb now has 697 career wins👊. They will host Killingly in an ECC tournament game Tuesday at 4 PM at Vets Field🥎

Girls Tennis won 2 matches vs Stonington last week. They finished the regular season with a 14-1 record on the year and have clinched the ECC D1 regular season championship for the first time since 2018. They are currently ranked #4 in Class L in the state. They start ECC tournament play at Stonington at 3 PM on Tuesday. 🎾

Boys tennis finished with a perfect regular season record 14-0, they are currently ranked #7 in Class M in the state. They will host the first two rounds of the ECC tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday starting at 3 PM each day. 🎾

Girls Golf shot its best round of the year and defeated Waterford 202-292 on Senior Day last week. Freshmen Abby Drago was the medalist shooting a 49. The team was also led by Savannah Marusov and Sadie Eident both shooting 50. Thank you Alaina for your dedication to our program and good luck in your future endeavors. They still have a handful of regular season matches yet to play before competing in the ECC championship on June 3 at Quinnatisset Country Club. ⛳️

Senior Days and Post Season!!! That was fast!!

We start with Girls Lacrosse who went 2-1 on the week including a big 17-2 win on Senior Day vs Pomperaug. The team was led by:

Congratulations seniors and thank you for your dedication to the program. The team is currently 7–8 on the year. They have one regular season game left Tuesday at Fitch at 5 PM before starting to defend their ECC championship. 🥍

Baseball continues to play very well including going 4–0 on the week. They started the week storming back from an 0-5 deficit to win in walk off fashion in the bottom of the 7th 7-6 vs ECC DI rival Waterford. Matt Resetar got the win in relief and Andrew Sevigny got the winning hit. Andrew and Greyson Biggs had clutch 2 RBI hits in the bottom of the 5th inning to tie the game. Will McKiernan, Nick Cambi and Andrew each had 2 hits in the game. With the win, the Vikings clinched the ECC regular season Division I championship for the first time since 2023. They also traveled to Killingly coming away with a 7-0 win. Tristan Glover threw a complete game no hit shutout including 14 strikeouts. Harrison Papuga and Zach D’Aiuto lead the offense with 2 hits each. They finished the week with an 8-5 win on Senior Day over Amity to improve to 15-3 on the year. Nick Cambi went 2-2 with a home run and 3 RBIs to lead the offense. They close out their regular season at West Haven Tuesday at 3:45 and at Old Lyme Wednesday at 4 PM before starting the ECC tournament next Tuesday. Softball pounded out 14 hits and scored 10 runs to defeat Woodstock Academy 10-2 last week. Mikaela Richter, Emma Knowlton and Emma VanDusen had doubles and 2 hits each for the Vikings. They are currently 10–7 with games at Guilford Monday at 4 PM, at home Tuesday at 6:30 PM vs HK and at RHAM Thursday at 5:30 PM to close out their regular season.🥎

Girls Golf hosted Woodstock Academy last week falling in a tight match 221-220. Sadie Eident led the team with a 52. They finished the week with a win at Tourtelotte. Alaina Sartori led the team with a 54. They host Waterford Monday at 3 PM in travel to Lyman Friday at 3 PM ⛳️

Boys Golf went 1-1 on the week defeating Lyme at home with a score of 171 and falling to Woodstock on the road. Caleb Trost led the way vs Lyme with a team low 40, Ethan Legg and Xavier Stafanski added matching 43s. Caleb also had a team low score of 38 at Woodstock. They host East Hampton Tuesday at 3 PM, host Waterford, Wednesday at 3 PM and host Fitch, Thursday at 3 PM. ⛳️

Boys Lacrosse had a busy week on the road traveling to Moses Brown, to Amity and Guilford. They are currently 12–3 on the year. They will play Brien McMahon Tuesday at 7 PM celebrating their Senior Night.🥍

Boys and Girls Crew competed in the CPSRA Championship Saturday at Lake Waramaug. They will be competing in the New England championships Saturday in Worcester. 🚣‍♂️

Heading into the home stretch of our regular season. Outdoor Track continues to work hard getting ready for another great post season run. Sam Leone won the seeded mile at the Connecticut Distance Festival at Hall HS with a time of 4:19.50. Nico Cardello finished 3rd with a time of 4:22.20. They will host NFA for an ECC division I meet Wednesday at 3:45. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Girls Tennis had a great week with wins vs Ledyard, Hand a key 4-3 win over Waterford in another huge ECC matchup to take control of the regular season division championship. Mila Lovering won in the #4 singles position and all three doubles teams won: Jessica Joe & Sophia Joe , Queenie Yang & Angie Chen,
Penny Lin & Carolyn Staskowski. They are looking to wrap up their first division title since 2018.🎾

Boys Tennis continues to dominate the league with wins over Montville, Waterford and Stonington to remain undefeated on the year. They will be finishing up their regular season this week with four matches and gearing up for the ECC Championship in a few weeks.🎾

Softball went 2-1 on the week with wins over Ledyard and Waterford and fell to NFA. Peyton Swanson had 3 hits including her first home run, scored 3 runs and had 3 RBIs to lead the Vikes to an 9-6 victory over Waterford. Emma Van Dusen also hit her first career home run for the Vikings. Lauryn Draco picks up the win on the mound. Team is now 9-5 on the year🥎

Baseball avenged an earlier loss to NFA beating the Wildcats 6-1 at home last week. Aidan Cochrane and Matt Resetar combined for a no hitter (2nd time this year). Cooper Siragusa had 2 hits including a double and had 2 RBIs.
Zach D'Aiuto added 2 hits including a double. They are 11-3 on the year. They also traveled to Cooperstown New York to play a game versus Killingly at historic Doubleday Field. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and the game was postponed until May 15 ⚾️

The Crew Team competed at the Kent Invitational Regatta on Lake Waramaug in New Preston, CT on Saturday. Competing schools were Kent School, Bedford, Boston Latin, Hingham, Deerfield Academy, Salisbury, Brunswick, Simsbury, Glastonbury, Stonington, and Farmington.

In the girls' 1st varsity 8 "B" flight, East Lyme placed 5th behind Glastonbury, Farmington, Stonington, and Simsbury. The girls' 1st 8 consists of coxswain, Emma Frisbie, Stroke, Elsie Jacobitz, Brianna Dmowski, Ryleigh Erban, Skylar Skapin, Lizzy Goeschel, Laurel Tierney, Claire Sirois, and Julia Morcos. The girls' 2nd 8 finished 4th in their race, and the girls' novice 4 came in 2nd behind Simsbury.

The boys' 1st varsity 8 placed 5th behind Glastonbury, Farmington, Hingham, and Bedford. They beat Simsbury. The boys' 1st varsity 8 consists of coxswain, Johnny Karun, Stroke Justin Northcott, Cooper Mclhenney, William Joelson, Rowan Clark, Chris Archer, Colton King-Ahmad, Spencer Sekulic, and Martin Cooper. The boys' 2nd 8 placed 6th in their race.🚣‍♂️

Girls Lacrosse traveled to Waterford and avenged an earlier loss winning on the road 9-6. Callan Keefe had 3 goals and 1 assist. Taylor Kachinsky and Cassidy O’Brien added 2 goals each. Goalie Ava Tooker made 7 saves. They host NFA Tuesday at 7PM, host Guilford Thursday at 7PM and host Pomperaug Saturday at 11 🥍

Boys lacrosse continues to play at a very high level with convincing wins last week versus Montville and Saint Bernards. They are 11–1 on the year. They hit the road this week traveling to Moses Brown in Rhode Island Tuesday at 5:45, travel to Amity Thursday at 5:45 and travel to Guilford Saturday for an 11 AM matchup 🥍

Boys Golf had a busy week. They competed in the annual Wildcat Invitational Monday. The team was led by Karch Kaczor with an 86 and Caleb Trost with an 88. They host Lyme Old Lyme Monday at 3PM and travel to Woodstock Academy Tuesday at 3PM⛳️

Girls Golf also competed in the Wildcat Invitational on Tuesday finishing in second place. They were the highest finishing ECC school. Alaina Sartori was third overall with a 44, Sadie Eident shot 48, Savannah Marusov shot 51 and Kay Williams rounded out the scoring with a 59. The host Woodstock Academy Tuesday at 3 PM, travel to Tourtelotte Wednesday at 3 PM and travel to Bacon Academy Thursday at 3 PM. ⛳️
