107 years ago today, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, as the guns fell silent, peace came to the war to end all wars...
Happy Veteran's Day/Armistice Day & thank you all for your service.
Brief history lesson for you on this Veteran's Day.
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918(11am on 11/11/18) the Armistice to end World War I (then called the Great War) was signed.
Starting in 1921 the US started honoring its soldiers killed in war, called Armistice Day on November 11th (though unofficial holiday). Until WWII that is, then in 1954 a non-veteran from Kansas approached his Congressman. Together they pushed through Congress and on October 8th, 1954, President (former General) Eisenhower signed the bill making Veteran's Day an official national holiday honoring ALL of the Soldiers, current and past, of the United States, to be celebrated on the original Armistice Day.
One person, with one idea made a difference, reminding a great nation that we need to honor our greatest citizens. The soldiers past, present, and future.
Thank you for your service.
