A huge thank you to the Embassy of Sweden in USA for the invite to their annual Midsommar celebration on the National Mall and the amazing hospitality during our visit. The Embassy invited us to introduce kubb to people that came to the celebration…and dozens of people played kubb, laughed, and met each other right under the Washington Monument. There was a band, DJ, flower crowns, midsommar pole with dancing, and smiles all around. Here are some photos from the evening.
We were able to take a photo with Ambassador Ahlin with our tournament king at the end of the Midsommar celebration, a photo with David Lunderquist - Head of Communication, Culture and Public Diplomacy with our Kubb Capital t-shirt at the Embassy the day before, and also a photo with Martin Waern who is traveling across the US for a year telling stories of Swedish immigrants and heritage.
A thunderstorm rolled through DC in the early part of the Midsommar celebration, which after a 15-minutes pause brought everyone a double rainbow and lightning storm in the distance with a red, purple, and pink sky, and then different colored sunsets in each direction. The music started up right after and the party went on until 9:30pm.
A magical Midsommar.
Thank you again to the Embassy of Sweden.

The Eau Claire Health Department invited us to bring kubb to the Augusta Area Men’s Shed today. What a great group and we loved hearing about the Men’s Shed initiative. We brought four sets to the Augusta Senior Center and had a couple dozen people playing throughout the hour. We really enjoyed talking strategy, hearing stories, and even checking out a homemade set. So much fun. So many smiles.
Kubb is for everyone. Thanks again for the invite!!

It’s hard to imagine someone that wore kubb as often and more proudly as Donna Anderson. It was almost daily. Donna was one of less than 10 people that had attended every Championship since 2007. She was a staple under our volunteer tent. Very, very few people have painted more kubbs than Donna. The list could go on and on with the help over the years she gave the Championship during Championship Week and throughout the year. She also helped start and organize the Rockford, IL Kubb Tournament for several years starting in 2010.
What seemed like weekly, she introduced people to the game we all love. She not only would introduce people to the game, but what she really wanted to do was introduce people to what she loved most…the people and kubb community. When asked what her interests were, the first or second thing she’d always say was the kubb community.
Donna’s favorite flower was the daisy.
Donna passed away in March. After she passed away, we reached out to our friends and sponsors Hemslojd, Inc who paints our National Champions and best kubb thrower trophies every year. We asked if this year they could do a design with daisies in memory of Donna. This was the first year that we have had a special request. As always, Riley and the crew nailed it. Thank you so much. They are beautiful. Your artwork continues to be a gift to us all.
Thank you again Donna for so much help, support, and constant reminder that it’s more than ok to truly love this game and community.

Only two weeks after the 2025 U.S. Championship, David Ellringer passed away. He was a 2010 U.S. Champion and five time podium finisher here with the team el ringers. In the mid 2010s, nobody went to more tournaments than David and he’d play with anyone. He was a staple at the Eau Claire Kubb League and tournaments coast to coast, and more times than not, his team would finish a tournament on the podium.
In addition, to say that he was a true ambassador of the game and sport of kubb would be an understatement. He’d volunteer his time for learn to play events, randomly introduce people to the game, help us mark our pitches (including in 2025), and so much more. He showed and would tell people that this beautiful game is for everyone.
Before every tournament you’d always hear him say that he and his team were there to “win the fun”. It was a reminder to all of us, as David realized that the game of kubb and the kubb community are gifts to us all.
This year, we are honoring David with our 2026 design. We are kicking it off with this four-part sticker series. As always, they will be free and at our scoring tent.
