Chippewa Valley Nordic Ski Team "Red Yetis"

What a day!! Thank you so much to everyone who came out to support CVN and take part in our first ever Red Yeti Rampage trail run at Tower Ridge!

It was a little chilly out there, but we have to be honest, the snow out there got us REALLY excited for the start of our ski season (today!) and gave us the hope we need for a long season with lots of skiing on the amazing trails out here at Tower.

Anyone who skis, bikes, or snowshoes in the Chippewa Valley knows Spring Street Sports in Chippewa Falls. Primarily, Spring Street Sports has been a huge contributor to youth skiing in the area through their ski exchange program for kids - for a very reasonable initial investment, they can outfit kids with a full package of skis, bindings, boots, and poles and allow them to exchange for larger sizes as they grow throughout their youth. That program has been a great partner with the Kickin' Kids program, who heavily emphasize classic skiing technique.

Spring Street Sports was extremely generous in supporting our event, with a $500 sponsorship that went a long way to allowing us to purchase professional timing through PT Timing! Thank you to Spring Street Sports!

In addition to sponsoring the Red Yeti Rampage - 5K & 10K Trail Run/Trek, Dahlby Conservation Services LLC has done more good work for the Chippewa Valley region than you likely know... in addition to collaborating on ski trail-related projects, their academically-trained and highly-skilled staff has more than 50 years of practical experience in forestry, watershed management, and prairie restoration. They provide a wide range of comprehensive services, including prescribed fire, and have successfully developed and implemented burn plans for private landowners, non-profit conservation organizations, corporations, and public agencies, in various habitat types. They've also done some amazing buckthorn removal work - which we always appreciate!

Most importantly, the Dahlby family nurtured a couple of our most successful athletes to date: their son Jack graduated last year and is starting his inaugural season on NMU's ski team! He and his sister (another CVN alum and accomplished skier and runner) Aiva will be out running the race, so look out for a couple of speedy young folks out there ;)

Blake’s Woodworking has long been a supporter of CVN, donating fine hand-crafted items for our raffle giveaways at our annual Banff Mountain Film Festival fundraiser in the spring. Blake Olson himself is an avid skier, (fellow Birkie skater - he and I (Coach O.) have skied the same amount of Birkies and are in the same starting wave... that's a deep bond...) and is a proud UWEC alum! You can also find him slingin' shoes at Blue Ox Running! He'll be out there on the trails on race day, so don't forget to cheer him on! For our race, Blake has provided our amazing finisher medals! You'll have to come join us to get a look at the craftsmanship ;)

We'll have lots to share about our early season camp, training plans, race schedule, new opportunities for fun practice formats, and all the info about how to get started in the sport for new families! All the weather forecast projections are looking great, and we're excited about the chance to get back on snow this winter!
