We sail Flying Scots out of Selby Bay where the South River connects to the Chesapeake Bay, very close to Thomas Point Light just South of Annapolis, MD.

We sail Flying Scots (a 19 ft. centerboard boat that is virtually indestructible, pretty darn stable and a lot of fun) out of Selby Bay (where the South River connects to the Chesapeake Bay). We're very close to Thomas Point Light, just south of Annapolis. All of our boats are dry-sailed from Selby Bay Sailing Center (SBSC) which has electric golf carts for moving the boats around and two electric

yes she is a tad wrinkled because the left half was built in 1998 and and the right half was 1974.
Many thanks to John Latell to help me hammer down the roof

It may not look like much and she is subject to flood. ( 9' below FEMA) Total save on this one. After 37 years and as a continuing home to over 60 Flying Scots: Flying Scot Fleet 42

Wednesday 06/28: this is how we roll

Feel incredibly humble for having my name and my crew's name join some of the most incredible sailor names on the Perpetual Trophy by winning the coveted First Place at the Fleet 42 Summer Solstice Regatta this weekend. This is a Regatta going on its 29th year, for which I've been racing in for the past 14 years.

We actually tied for first place (with 6 points each), but won due to the honesty of my opponent that at the awards' ceremony voluntarily announced that he had committed an infraction (touched a mark) and since they had not performed the required penalty turns, had to be disqualified for that race, making me and my crew the qualified winners.

This was one of the greatest lessons in sportsmanship and civility that I've witnessed in the sport in recent years. Sailboat racing does not have referees or umpires. It has a Race Committee, but they can't possibly witness everything that is happening on the water. Therefore the sport relies on honesty and good sportsmanship and racers are supposed to hone to their mistakes and take penalties to exonerate themselves, or retire. This exactly what happened. Thank you! Also wanted to give a shout out to my great friend Alex Diaz that crewed for me, helping us cross the finish line in first place!

Fleet 42 had its 1st annual Teen Outing and Picnic; which of course turned into casual racing. A dozen kids in Scots doing their thing. A support boat, East winds at 7. Followed by a huge pot luck: Burgers, dogs, smoked brisket, shrimp boil, potato salad, watermelon, coconut cakes. By the end of it all the kids turned down the ice cream. All on the last day before school starts. If you have children between the age of 5 and 85; make a list, send it twice…
