Monitoring vertical jump performance as athletes finalize preparations for tryouts next week.

Studies have found a reasonably strong correlation between the vertical jump and on-ice anaerobic capacity. As well as the vertical jump being a very consistent predictor of both acceleration and speed!

How do you catch your breath? Hands on head, or hands on hips?

Recovering faster than your opponent is an important aspect of sport. Especially those that involve repeat max efforts (i.e. hockey). So, what is the best way catch your breath?

According to a study performed by Lorrie Brilla, Ph.D. at Western Washington University, “bending over is ideal for recovery.” Simply stated, because this position allows the diaphragm to bring more air into the lungs.
