The heat wave expected to bring the hottest temperatures in four years in New Jersey is impacting events scheduled for the Independence Day holiday weekend.

An extreme heat warning issued by the National Weather Service goes into effect on Wednesday as temperatures soar into the 90s. Combined with high humidity, the heat index will reach 100-110 each day.

New Jersey 101.5 Chief Meteorologist Dan Zarrow said morning and nightly rounds of thunderstorms are possible each day.

In one of the most challenging and least enticing events, a French vegan swimmer has made history at the World Championships

The Ice Swimming championships finished in Finland with competitors swimming in sub-zero water. Pools were carved out of a sea frozen under 90 cm of ice.

Champion Francois-Xavier Filias explained that “every stroke was a victory over the freezing void.”

Zohran Mamdani wants to overhaul New York City’s food system. To help make that happen, he has appointed Siddhartha Sanchez, a lifelong vegan, as executive director of the Mayor’s Office of Food Policy (MOFP).

Sanchez is passionate about both food justice and sustainability. Before joining MOFP, he worked at the Bronx River Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to conserving and restoring the Bronx River corridor. During his time there, he helped pilot the first edible food forest at Concrete Plant Park, a former industrial site that was transformed into a public park in the 2000s. Planted in 2017, the food forest provided local residents with access to native berries and vegetables.

The 12th Annual International Yoga Day was celebrated in Edison, New Jersey, organized by World Vegan Vision in partnership with the Consulate General of India in New York. Held at the Sheraton Hotel at Raritan Center, the event brought together community members for a morning of yoga, meditation, pranayama, chair yoga, laughter yoga, and Ayurveda-based wellness practices. Chief guests included Acharya Dr. Lokesh Muni, wellness advocate Mark Becker, and Consul General of India in New York Binaya S.
