⚽️⚽️⚽️THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOOD SOCCER PLAYERS + GREAT ONES⚽️⚽️⚽️
Talent gets you noticed. Mindset keeps you improving.
Here’s the difference between good and great players:
⚽ Good players train when they feel motivated. Great players train even when they don’t.
⚽ Good players focus on highlights. Great players focus on consistency.
⚽ Good players fear mistakes. Great players learn from them.
As a D1 athlete, I saw plenty of talented players come and go. The ones who lasted weren’t always the flashiest — they were the ones who showed up, stayed coachable, and kept working when no one was watching.

5 THINGS I WISH I KNEW AS A YOUTH ATHLETE - From a coaches perspective
1. Effort and attitude outweigh talent - talent is the starting point but players who show effort and resilience often surpass naturally gifted players who don't work hard.
2. Do take ownership for your game - the extra work you do on your own is what makes the biggest difference.
3. Mistakes are lessons - as a kid I was always scared of messing up but as a coach, l've realized mistakes are how you learn.
4. The little things matter - first touch, body positions, fitness + off ball movement separate good from great.
5. Control what you can - effort and attitude + preparation are in your control. Focus on giving your best, staying positive + preparing well. Everything else takes care of itself.

⚽️👋🏼 Hey, I’m Kasey Cox—the guy behind Kasey Cox Soccer Training.
I’m a C licensed coach/Boys Director with the USA Stars Soccer Academy and the Olympic Development Program (ODP-YOP), but even before that, soccer was my whole life. I’ve played everywhere from Italy to D1 at Sacramento State—until an injury pushed me from playing to coaching. And honestly? I wouldn’t change it.
With a degree in kinesiology, years as a personal trainer and 10+ years coaching, I know how to make training intense, effective, and safe. Whether it’s individual growth or team play, I love helping young athletes not just play soccer, but really understand and love the game.
Here you’ll find tips, drills, behind-the-scenes coaching moments, and a whole lot of soccer love. ⚽🔥
And if you’re local to Folsom/El Dorado Hills, I also offer individual and group training—I’d love to work with your player.
