Normally, next week we’d be gathering in Hueco for the Rodeo.

We are heartbroken to not see you all, but we put your health and safety and that of the local community above all else. So, stay safe and train hard for next year!

Be sure to mark your calendars for the 2023 Rodeo on Feb 17-19, 2023. We’ll be back bigger and better than ever!

Every dollar raised supports the AAC's work protecting wild places, educating climbers, and building community.

We are deeply saddened to announce the cancellation of the in-person Hueco Rock Rodeo and that the American Alpine Club - Hueco Rock Ranch will not open for the 2020-2021 season. Our primary concern is our community, including the safety and wellbeing of our staff and guests. Logistically, we simply cannot ensure that safety. El Paso is experiencing significantly increased spread of the coronavirus and we ask that all climbers focus on vigilance and best practices. Please see the AAC's updated Covid-19 Guidance.

We will deeply miss everyone this year and hope you are able to safely enjoy fresh air wherever you may find yourselves.

See you for the 2022 Rodeo! For questions please contact [email protected] or [email protected].

Between the Lines: Losing Your Friends Doesn’t Get Easier - Rock and Ice 05/28/2020

"Grief is precisely as painful as it is. No more and no less. In that sense, climbing does offer a useful preparation for something like grief. Routes are precisely as hard as they are, and there are no shortcuts to sending. There’s only the experience of climbing the route. You can’t sidestep it. You have to go through it. I get that."
—Andrew Bisharat

Tonight at 6pm MDT, writers Andrew Bisharat and Ashley Shires will be hosting Clubhouse Live as volunteers for the Climbing Grief Fund. Together they will share personal writings and discuss writing as a tool for processing difficult experiences.
