DEFENSIVE HANDGUN LEVEL I

(Fi****ms Training provided at the Cody Shooting Complex, 30245 220th Ave, Long Grove, Iowa)

August 22nd/23rd (Saturday and Sunday) 2026, 9 am – 5 pm

This course is designed to provide safe, realistic, and practical training in the actual defensive use of a handgun and everyday carry issues. Students should expect to receive a strong grounding in the fundamentals of "defensive" and “practical/performance” handgun application and how it differs from a sterile range environment. While this is not a basic or introductory class and is designed for those who have already obtained a concealed carry license or had exposure to basic handling and safety, the systematic and methodical presentation of the material will ensure a safe, manageable environment for everyone.

🚨 Illinois Wants to Serialize Your Ammo and Add New Fees

What this new bill would do:

👉 Require serialized handgun ammunition
👉 Create an Illinois State Police ammunition transaction registry
👉 Allow fees of up to 5 cents per round or bullet
👉 Add more tracking and costs for law-abiding gun owners

📅 Key dates:

👉 Introduced on January 14, 2026
👉 Sponsored by Rep. Anne Stava
👉 Moved to the House Judiciary–Criminal Committee on March 12, 2026
👉 If passed, the requirements would begin on January 1, 2027

This has been a grey area since they came out.

Stay up to date with all state and federal laws and changes.

🚨 ATF says the pistol brace fight isn’t over ...

A new court filing shows that even though the 2023 pistol brace rule was wiped off the books, the ATF is still arguing that some brace-equipped pistols can be treated as short-barreled rifles under existing federal law.

👉 Key takeaways:

• 📄 The ATF says the current brace-rule case should be dismissed as moot because the 2023 rule has already been vacated nationwide.

• ⚠️ The agency also made clear it still plans to enforce the NFA and GCA against some braced pistols on a case-by-case basis.

• 🔍 In plain terms: the rule may be gone, but ATF says the underlying law still applies if a firearm meets the statutory definition of an SBR.

• 💬 That means many gun owners are left with the same big question: what exactly counts, and who decides?

Bottom line: the brace rule may be dead, but ATF enforcement risk is not.
