Pasquotank Girls Wrestling

So we have reached the conclusion of this years State tournament and Ahriana scales has placed 4th. She had an amazing run these 3 days and even though it wasn’t the result she wanted, we are all still very proud of her. Now she will start getting ready for nationals and then on to her collegiate career. Congratulations Ahriana, you are always a champion to us!

Well we’re here at day 3 for the State tournament and Ahriana Scales has punched her way to the consolation finals and will wrestle for 3rd place. In doing so, she also got her 100th high school career win. I will post later her final placement and podium pictures.

Well now that all our wrestlers are done wrestling for the weekend, the results were as follows.

Ahriana Scales made it to the regional final but fell short of being a regional champion. Finishing 2nd in the region she now gets to lock in and get ready for the state tournament in less than 2 weeks. There she may get the opportunity to avenge the recent loss here in Havelock and win a state title. She has had a fantastic season so far with just one more show to attend.

Francesca “Gabby” Cardenas lost in the second round of the consolation bracket. She fell to 2 experienced wrestlers, one of being the eventual regional champion. As a first year wrestler she beat out 16 other wrestlers in her weight class to qualify for regionals. She intends on continuing to get better by working out and training regularly this offseason. I look forward to her growth in the coming year.

Colby Mckethan qualified for the regional tournament but was unable to attend due to the flu. Its unfortunate because I know how hard she worked the last few weeks to get ready for this tournament. Once she gets healthy again I expect her to work this offseason as well to prepare for her senior and final season as a Panther.

As the girls know, I am proud of them. They have worked hard to get where they are and we all hope the program grows a bit more next season and continues to grow in future seasons. Pictures coming after awards are handed out here in Havelock upon the completion of the East Region tournament.

Well we are here at the girls East Regional tournament for day number 2. We only have 2 wrestlers in the tournament but both will be battling for a ticket to the State tournament in two weeks. Unfortunately we are missing Colby Mckethan this weekend due to catching the flu on Thursday. Gabby Cardenas will be wrestling back through consolations today and Ahriana Scales will kick off the day in the championship semifinals. Good Morning everyone. Well after weather issues caused the cancellation of a few events this year we had our rescheduled conference tournament last night. The girls all wrestled well…..probably the best they have wrestled all season and with regionals coming up next week, we’re headed in the right direction. We ended up with 1 champion and 2 runner ups.

Ahriana Scales was the 114lb champion going 2-0 and was also voted the Northeastern Coastal Conference Female Wrestler of the Year.

Colby McKethan was the 107lb runner up losing in overtime with one of the most exciting matches I’ve seen her wrestle all year. She went 0-1 on the night (2 girls in the weight class)

Gabby Cardenas was also a runner up at 100lbs. She went 1-1 on the night and again….wrestled the best I’ve seen her do all year.

We have a little over a week until regionals and a chance to qualify for the state tournament. Still a few more things to work on until then but hopefully we can iron everything out and get everyone to Greensboro.

Afternoon all, time to recap whats been going on.
December 13th we went to the Joe Nassif tournament at Rosewood. We only had one placer and that was Ahriana Scales at 120 where she was the champion. Colby went 1-2 and Gabby went 0-2. We finished 14th out of 22 teams.
December 21st we hosted our first dual team tournament but we did not win any of our duals (tough to do with 3 out of 12 weights) but our girls that got a chance to wrestle did so very well and gained a lot of valuable mat time.
January 4th we headed down to Swansboro for their girls holiday invitational where we finished 7th out of 12 teams. Ahriana Scales was again a champion this time at 114lbs and Colby Mckethan finished in 3rd at 107. Gabby Cardenas did not place.
Our next big event will be this Saturday, January 11th at Corinth Holders for the Jolly Roger Invitational which should be a big test for all the girls.

Hey all, finally sitting down to update the results of Friday's tournament at North Pitt. We went in with 4 ladies and ended up 7th out of 12 teams. We had 2 second place finishers and 1 4th. A lot of improvement shown here across the board and with a shade under 2 months before regionals we are moving in the right direction. Here were the placers:

Ahriana Scales 2nd @120 - 2-1
Colby Mckethan 2nd @114 - 2-1
Franseca "Gabby" Cardenas 4th @107 - 1-2
Aryana Toxey DNP @165 - 3-2

Up next we will head to Roanoke Rapids for a Tri meet on December 11th and then out to Rosewood on December 13th for the Joe Nassif Girls Invitational.

Good morning everyone! Beginning of the season has been busy but productive. Going to recap the last 2 weeks.

11/13 - We kicked off the season against Northeastern and Edenton. We won both duals.

11/20 - A week later we wrestled Currituck and Edenton. We defeated Edenton but fell to Currituck.

11/22 - we traveled to West Craven for the Lady Eagle Invitational. As a team we placed 5th out of 13. We had 2 champions, Colby McKethan at 114 and Ahriana Scales at 120 and a 4th place finisher in Franseca Cardenas at 107.

Should have posted this sooner. Our schedule is as posted. Theres been 2 changed made. December 11th will not be at West Craven, still TBD on new location. Also, first flight match on 11/20 will now be 11/26.

Just a reminder for those that are interested in joining the wrestling team this year, we will have an interest meeting at 4pm on Thursday September 19th. This will be for both boys and girls teams so bring with you any questions you may have. Preseason workouts will start September 23rd and will run Mondays and Wednesdays from 430-6pm. Please Share this with anyone you know that may be looking for a winter sport to be a part of this year.
