Jaume Bonnin holds a UEFA licence, has coached in Spain’s top youth divisions, and brings a video analyst’s eye to every session.

But what makes him different? He’s been an RCD Espanyol de Barcelona supporter since childhood and has held a season ticket his entire life.

This isn’t just a job. This is his club. Now he brings that passion to New Jersey.

The result: decided on penalties. The performance: undeniable.

Welcome to the Academy, Lluís Santamaría

We are proud to announce the arrival of Lluís Santamaría as the new Technical Director of the RCD Espanyol de Barcelona Academy New Jersey.

Lluís Santamaría is a former player developed in the RCD Espanyol youth categories and a former professional footballer in LaLiga. After his playing career, he continued his path as a coach within RCD Espanyol’s youth teams, working directly in the development of elite players under the club’s official methodology.

Lluís arrives in New Jersey with a clear objective:
to develop our academy players the same way he did at Espanyol, focusing on technical excellence, tactical intelligence, professionalism, and strong personal values.

His professional football background, combined with his experience as a youth coach inside a top European academy, will be a major asset for our players and coaching staff bringing real, first-hand knowledge of what it takes to progress in the modern game.

This is another important step in strengthening our project and staying fully aligned with the identity, standards, and methodology of RCD Espanyol de Barcelona.
