‼️SAFETY PROTOCOL : EHV-1 OUTBREAK‼️

In light of the ongoing EHV-1 outbreak, it is important for owners to implement clear monitoring practices at home to reduce risk and protect their horses’ health. Below are key steps you can take to stay proactive and maintain strong biosecurity during this time.

1. Take Twice-Daily Temperature Checks
• Check your horse’s temperature twice daily. Once in the morning and once in the evening.

2. Limit All Horse Movement
• Avoid hauling to shows, clinics, lessons, or other barns.

3. Avoid Sharing Equipment
• Water buckets
• Feed tubs
• Tack or grooming tools
• Blankets, wraps, or halters, ect

4. Strengthen Barn Hygiene
• Wash hands between handling different horses and disinfect high-touch areas like cross-ties, stall doors, gates, and grooming spaces.

5. Isolate New or Returning Horses
If any horse has recently traveled or arrived from another facility:
• Isolate for 21–28 days.
• Use separate equipment, water sources, and turnout.

6. Watch for Early Signs of Illness
Monitor your horse closely for:
• Fever
• Nasal discharge
• Coughing
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy
• Hind-end weakness or unsteadiness
• Difficulty urinating or dribbling urine
If any signs appear, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Due to the current EHV-1 outbreak, we are temporarily pausing intake of all new horses until further notice. This decision is being made out of an abundance of caution to protect the health and safety of every horse connected to our program.

EHV-1 is highly contagious and can spread through direct horse-to-horse contact, shared equipment, contaminated surfaces, and even on clothing or hands. In situations like this, the most responsible approach is to limit horse movement and follow strict biosecurity practices.
At this time, we will not be admitting any new horses until the situation stabilizes and it is safe to resume normal operations.

We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the well-being of your horses and our community. We will continue monitoring veterinary updates and will announce immediately when we can safely reopen to new admissions.
