When working on a piece of equipment as narrow as the balance beam, technical precision is your athlete's absolute best friend. Even during stationary stretching and active flexibility work, how the body faces the apparatus changes the entire dynamic of the movement.
In this behind-the-scenes coaching clip, Debbie walks down the beam line to check on active split progressions, highlighting a major technical detail: Coaches stand to the side for a reason.
Why Lateral Vision Matters for Coaches
When an athlete is working on their beam splits, a coach cannot accurately evaluate their form from a front-facing perspective. Stepping off to the side allows us to track two critical benchmarks:
✔️ Hip Squareness: To maintain perfect balance on a four-inch surface, the hips must remain perfectly inline and squared. If the hips begin to twist or tilt sideways to force a deeper stretch, the athlete loses their center of gravity and trains their muscles in an incorrect position.
✔️ The Knee Turnout: For active leg flexibility to transfer into beautiful, high-flying jumps, the knee must be actively involved. As Debbie corrects one of our athletes, she notes the need for a "little more turnout here so you can get the knee involved." Rotating the knee upward structurally engages the correct muscle groups, ensuring the legs stay straight and the joints are protected.
Small Changes, Bigger Wins
Our coaching blueprint focuses heavily on individual accountability, even in a group training environment. By walking the line and calling out numbers "one, two, three, four, five" we keep the energy high and the pacing consistent. Praising a tough position as a "good effort" while simultaneously offering a specific alignment correction allows our athletes to feel supported while they strive for technical perfection.

The Summer Lineup:
June marks the official start of our new gymnastics season, and we are kicking off the summer with an incredible lineup of events designed to keep your athletes moving, learning, and building confidence. Whether your child is stepping onto the floor for the first time or moving into a higher competitive level, our upcoming schedule balances hard work with community fun.
Here is what is coming up at Elevate Gymnastics Academy over the next few weeks:
June 13: Father’s Day Open Gym (2:00 PM - 3:30 PM)
Moms had their turn last month, and now it is time for the dads to get out on the floor. Bring your dad (or parent) to the gym, show him what you are working on, and teach him a few gymnastics basics. Dad is completely free to attend with a registered student. Please note that pre-registration is required by 6:00 PM on June 12th as space is limited.
June 27: Parents Night Out (5:00 PM - 9:00 PM)
Enjoy a night out while we handle the entertainment. We are opening up the gym for four full hours of games, open gym time, and activities for kids ages 6 and older. Space is limited and pre-registration is required by the Friday before the event.
July 4: Gym Closed
The gym will be completely closed today so our coaches, staff, and athletes can celebrate Independence Day safely with their families.
July 11: Ninja Training & Mission (2:30 PM - 4:00 PM)
A specialized session dedicated to our obstacle course training, agility work, and high-energy missions. Everyone is welcome to join and give our Ninja program a try! (Mission is invite only, but training is open to everyone). This is the perfect opportunity for kids looking to build explosive power and coordination.
July 13–17 & July 27–31: EGA Summer Camps (9:00 AM - 12:30 PM)
Our summer camps are the ultimate way to beat the mid-summer plateau. Each week features a structured blend of gymnastics technical training, arts and crafts, ninja missions, and games. Early drop-off begins at 8:30 AM, and daily or weekly registration options are available. Please pack a snack for your athlete each day.
You do not need to be currently enrolled in weekly classes to join us for these events, so feel free to bring a friend along to experience the gym.
All event registrations must be completed ahead of time. Head over to the Elevate Gymnastics app or visit our website to secure your child's spot before sessions fill up.
Attention Elk Grove Gymnastics Parents! Is your high-level gymnast truly recovering during their time off?
At Elevate Gymnastics Academy in Elk Grove, CA, our competitive athletes often train for 20-25+ hours a week. For example, our Devo 3 gymnasts train an intentional 12 hours a week, including set rest days. These hours are carefully structured to allow for proper physical and mental recovery.
When gymnasts, especially those training high volumes, take on too many extra activities (like weekend trips, excessive sports, etc.), it leads to them being overwhelmed, unhappy, and unprepared for practice. We see a noticeable difference on Mondays, they are not fresh!
We prioritize not only your child's training but also their success in school. This means parents must ensure their athlete's "off-time" is genuine recovery time. We ask parents to partner with us to ensure the training hours we assign are the MAXIMUM demanding hours for the week, allowing them to excel in the gym without burning out.
Let's work together to maximize your athlete's recovery and performance! Share your best recovery tip for young athletes in the comments.

There is nothing more rewarding than watching an athlete grow up in our gym!
This week, we are highlighting a 5-star perspective from an EGA parent who has been part of our community for over five years.
We love this look at how our program is intentionally designed to grow with your child:
✔️ The Foundation: We start with fun and high-energy engagement to build a genuine love for the sport.
✔️ The Progression: As they mature, we introduce the discipline and technical structure needed for competitive excellence.
✔️ The Results: Watching "year-over-year" improvement and the creation of lifelong friendships on the team floor.
We know that competitive gymnastics is a major family commitment, from volunteer "parent points" to travel weekends. But as this parent shared, that investment is the blueprint for building grit, resilience, and confidence that lasts a lifetime.
Thank you for trusting our coaches with your athlete’s journey for over half a decade! We are so proud to be your home for athletic development in Elk Grove. 🏆

As we reach the "Grand Finale" of the competitive season, we want to take a moment to celebrate the people behind the athletes.
From January 1st through May, gymnastics isn't just a sport, it’s a lifestyle. To every parent who navigated the busy weekends, the long drives, and the emotional highs and lows: we see you. It is a significant job to support a child through this process, but the payoff is incredible. We watch these athletes progress so rapidly, from those first basic or Bronze milestones all the way up to Level 10 and graduation. Because this journey moves at lightning speed, we encourage you to soak in every moment. Take the event pictures, buy the commemorative t-shirts, and keep those memories "alive."
One day, you’ll look back on these busy weekends and realize they were some of the best times. Our hope at Elevate Gymnastics Academy is that as your children grow into resilient young adults, they carry the grit they learned here into everything they do. Who knows? Some of them might even return to have their very first job right here at EGA!
Thank you for being the foundation of your athlete's success. Let's enjoy this final stretch of the season together!
What is your favorite memory from this season so far? Tell us in the comments—we’d love to celebrate it with you! 👇

At Elevate Gymnastics Academy, we believe greatness isn't measured solely by the gold around an athlete’s neck, it’s found in the resilience they build every time they step onto the mat.
In a world focused on instant results, we’re taking a moment this May to celebrate the "long game" of youth athletic development. Whether it’s a Level 10 athlete competing at Regionals or a first-time tumbler mastering their forward roll, the grit and consistency they learn in our Elk Grove gym are the skills that last a lifetime.
As our owner, Debbie, always says:
"If you have passion in what you do, it doesn't matter how long it takes to achieve your goals."
What Does "The Journey" Actually Look Like?
In our latest blog post, we’re pulling back the curtain on the EGA philosophy and how we nurture the "joy of the sport" alongside technical precision:
✔️ The Power of the "Bounce Back": How gymnastics teaches children to embrace mistakes as stepping stones to success.
✔️ Building Self-Esteem Through Sport: Why "little gains" in the gym lead to massive confidence in the classroom and beyond.
✔️ Passion vs. Pressure: How focusing on the fun keeps athletes "alive" in the sport and prevents burnout.
✔️ Long-Term Growth: Moving past the "grind" to find the passion that fuels mental toughness.
We don’t just train gymnasts; we empower the next generation of leaders in Sacramento County to reach their full potential, one intentional step at a time.

The end of a season is about so much more than finishing a curriculum; it’s a time to look back at the incredible transformation of our athletes.
If you saw our gymnasts back in June, the difference today is "night and day." It’s not just the new skills they’ve mastered, it’s the maturity, the grit, and the confidence they carry every time they walk into the gym.
As our athletes "level up" and move on to new groups and coaches, it’s a bittersweet moment for us. Our coaches form deep attachments to these students, and while we’ll miss the daily high-fives, we are so proud to see them thrive. This transition is a vital part of their athletic development, proving that the consistency of their training has paid off.
Our ultimate goal at EGA isn't just to build great gymnasts, but to help these children grow into amazing young men and women who contribute positively to their community. Watching them master a "bounce back" and embrace the "joy of the sport" reminds us that we are building resilience for life.
Parents, take a moment this month to look back at where your athlete started. The progress is real, and we can’t wait to see how they continue to soar in the years to come!

Two Paths, One Heart: The EGA Blueprint 🤸♀️✨
At Elevate Gymnastics Academy, we believe there is no "one-size-fits-all" journey. Every athlete walks through our doors with a unique goal, but they all leave with the same foundation of resilience, grit, and confidence.
As we wrap up our Grand Finale season this May, we’re celebrating the diverse milestones our athletes have reached since January. Swipe through to see how we balance the "joy of the sport" with the "pursuit of excellence" to create a community where every child can thrive!
What makes the EGA journey special?
✔️ Recreational Growth: Focusing on physical literacy, social connections, and those incredible "little gains" like a first cartwheel or pull-up.
✔️ Competitive Excellence: Sharpening technical precision, discipline, and the mental toughness needed for the "bounce back" on the big stage.
➡️ Shared Values: No matter the level, every athlete is building the consistency and self-esteem that will serve them for a lifetime.
Whether your athlete is a recreational rockstar or a competitive champion, their momentum doesn't have to stop when school ends!
We want to hear from you! Is your athlete currently a recreational or competitive gymnast? Tell us which path they’re crushing in the comments! 👇
There’s a reason we call this event the ultimate test of endurance and technical precision.
On the pommel horse, the smallest adjustment in your line can be the difference between a "stick" and a "fall."
In this behind-the-scenes clip, you can hear that immediate, real-time coaching that makes our boys' program so strong. "Head up, good!" It sounds simple, but keeping your chin up and eyes forward is the secret to maintaining the core stability and momentum needed to circle around the horse.
When an athlete keeps their head up, it helps square their shoulders and allows them to "squeeze hard" through their legs, staying "alive" through every rotation. This kind of positive reinforcement is how we turn a tough drill into a confidence-building win.
Every circle mastered is a "little gain" that leads to long-term success in athletic development. We are so proud of the grit these guys show every time they mount the horse!
