The primary function of the cardiovascular system is to deliver oxygen and nutrients to working tissues, and then carry waste products away from the working tissues.
The degree to which physical activity places a demand on the cardiovascular system depends on how hard the muscle is working or how much tissue is working.
The greater the metabolic demand, the harder the cardiovascular system has to work to support the work being done by the muscles.
The heart does not know what the muscles are doing, only that the they *are* working.
A variety of activities can lead to cardiovascular benefits, but the exact same (or greater) benefits can be attained with proper resistance training, all while simultaneously stimulating improvements in all the other trainable factors of functional ability, all while being much safer on joints and connective tissues.
The amount of calories burned by traditional "cardiovascular" activity also has been grossly exaggerated by the fitness industry, so sorry to say, your Fitbit has been lying!
Stop doing cardio for the sake of cardio in 2023!
