Today was all about exploration, teamwork, and pure fun out on the trails. Some riders got to discover brand‑new sections, others revisited familiar favorites, and everyone brought the energy that makes this team special.

The Lions did an awesome job encouraging each other, trying new features, and really gelling as a squad. From first-time attempts to confident sends, the stoke was high and the smiles were real.

Overall? A great day with great people.

🚴‍♂️💙 Howard Lions Cycling Club had a PERFECT night on the trails! 💙🚴‍♀️

Another gorgeous evening, another killer practice — and this one came with big news.

We welcomed John, who jumped in through the Try It Out program and absolutely crushed his first night with the team. A little bike‑basics session, a smooth roll through Rockburn, and even a tiny taste of Patapsco… and guess what?

Meanwhile, Chay put down some serious effort — the kind that makes coaches raise eyebrows and teammates nod with respect. His hard work earned him the coveted Howard Heart Helmet for the night.

🚴‍♂️💙 Howard Lions Cycling Club — What. A. Day. 💙🚴‍♀️

Today’s team ride was the definition of perfect. The plan was simple — just ride and enjoy — and the Lions absolutely delivered.

We kicked off the morning by running into the Mountain Lions, always a boost to the vibe. Then, in one of those moments that makes our trails feel like home, we crossed paths with Sissy, Garrett’s mother, right as we rolled across Garrett’s Pass. Such a gift to stop, chat, and share that connection.

From there, the crew pushed all the way across the park for a gorgeous view of Buzzard’s Rock, dropped down to the Grist Mill, and cruised across the Swinging Bridge. A park volunteer even hit us with a surprise history lesson — and you know the Lions love a little trail lore.

Then came the climb out (because of course), and back at Rockburn, Aydin passed the Howard Heart Helmet to Nora, who absolutely rocked today’s ride. Pure Lions spirit.

Overall? A superb ride with superb people.
We’re still missing our athletes who are off on vacations, working summer jobs, or recovering from those pesky summer colds — but the pride runs strong, and the season energy is building.

🚴‍♂️💙 Howard Lions Cycling Club LEVELING UP! 💙🚴‍♀️

Last night’s practice had chef’s‑kiss weather and nothing but good vibes. The crew showed real growth, real progress, and the kind of teamwork that makes this club special.

They pushed each other, encouraged each other, and even stopped to session some of those “old nemesis” spots — you know, the ones that used to make everyone pause for a second. Not anymore. The Lions scouted them, studied them, and even sent a few. That’s the kind of confidence that builds champions.

And the best part? Watching these athletes accomplish more and more as the season rolls on. By the end of the year, those “nemesis” areas don’t stand a chance.

A huge congrats to Aydin, who showed nonstop determination and absolutely conquered one of those nemesis features. That heart, that grit — that’s what being a Lion is all about.

🚴‍♂️💙 Howard Lions Cycling Club — Nothing but GOOD VIBES tonight! 💙🚴‍♀️

New friends, new skills, new experiences — this is what makes our sport amazing. From the moment we rolled into Rockburn, the energy was all smiles and all Lions.

We even kicked off the evening by running into one of our League Directors, Adam — always a pleasure catching him out on the trails. That’s the kind of community that keeps this program special.

This week we welcomed a brand‑new recruit, Nolan, who jumped right into the “Try It Out” program and rode with us both Tuesday and today. And let’s just say… it looks like we’ve got a new teammate in the making. More on that soon.

Because of the heat, practice stayed super chill — focusing on Bike 101 skills, the fundamentals that make every rider safer, smoother, and more confident. Then we rolled out for a relaxed loop through Rockburn, putting those skills to work and enjoying the evening breeze.

Out on the trail, we even met a young Bard Owl — a true little Forest Whisperer perched and scouting the woods. Moments like that remind us why we love being out here.

As we wrapped up, the team took a moment to reflect on the ride and celebrate Nolan’s progress. From day one to day two, the improvement was huge — and the excitement was even bigger. So tonight, we proudly presented him with the Howard Heart Helmet, a symbol of effort, growth, and Lion spirit.

The season ahead is looking bright, fun, and full of momentum. We can’t wait to have the whole crew back once vacations wind down.

The wait is over… Season 9 is officially here! 🚵🔥

For the next few months, we’ll explore new trails, tackle new challenges, cheer each other on, and make memories that will last long after the finish line.

This league isn’t just about riding bikes. It’s about discovering what you’re capable of, finding your people, learning to care for the places we ride, and growing both on and off the trail.

Whether you’re clipping in for the very first time or returning for another season, we’re excited to have you as part of the Maryland Interscholastic Cycling League family.

Here’s to dirt-covered smiles, high-fives at the finish, unforgettable weekends, and another amazing season together.

Huge thank you to Howard High School for hosting the very first Freshman Launch Night tonight — the turnout was incredible and the energy was unreal. So many future Lions stopped by to learn about the team, the trails, and what it means to ride with pride.

To everyone who came over to chat, ask questions, or just check out what we’re all about — we appreciate you. The interest was strong, and we can’t wait to hear from you soon as you start planning your fall activities.

Special shoutout to Roman, Connor, Milo, and Aydin for holding it down and talking with families and rising freshmen all evening. That leadership and enthusiasm is what makes this team special.

🚴‍♂️💙 Celebrating Our Senior Charles 💙🚴‍♂️

Today we honor one of the true pillars of the Howard Lions Cycling Club — Charles Mahoney, a founding member, a steady leader, and a rider whose heart has been in this team since day one.

From his early days with the Mountain Lions to helping launch the Howard team his sophomore year, Charles has been a driving force behind our growth. He led not with words, but with dedication, grit, and race‑after‑race consistency that inspired every rider who lined up beside him.

On and off the trails, Charles has shown what it means to commit, to improve, and to lift others up along the way. We couldn’t be more proud of the athlete, teammate, and young man he has become.

Today, as he walks across the stage as a graduate, we celebrate everything he’s built here — and everything he’s ready to build next. This fall, Charles heads to James Madison University to pursue a degree in business management, and we know he’ll bring the same drive, leadership, and heart that shaped our team.

Congratulations, Charles and the entire graduating class of 2026!! Once a Lion, always a Lion. 🦁💙
