Wow, what a day! This year's Fool's Gold Bike Race was all about character building and type 2 fun. Congrats to all who lined up and finished under extremely tough conditions. This is one that we're going to be telling stories about for quite a while.

A HUGE thanks to not only everyone who came out to play bikes with us, but also to all the amazing race day volunteers who stood out in the rain to ensure our riders were taken care of and safe. Even those under the big tent were standing in 4" of water on Saturday - there were no 'easy' jobs.

Thanks to Maxxis Tires for their amazing support of this event as well as Montaluce Winery and Restaurant for providing such a beautiful venue.

Needless to say, cleanup has been quite the ordeal. Race results will be posted later today though Saturday wasn't about the destination - it was all about the journey!

As of right now, Thursday morning at 10 am, we are still good to go with the normal Fool's Gold Course. Unless we are instructed to run the rain route by the USFS, which they can ask us to do up through Friday afternoon, I plan to stick with the normal course.

If we are required to use the rain route by USFS, we will communicate that change via email to all racers once we have been told. YOU MUST RIDE A MOUNTAIN BIKE if we have to use the rain route - NO GRAVEL BIKES. I will not be responding to individual texts, messages, and emails regarding the rain route so please just wait and check your email Friday night for updates. IF YOU DON'T SEE ANY UPDATES THAT MEANS WE ARE USING THE REGULAR COURSE.

If you didn't see yesterday's post, I'm keeping registraton open through 11:59 pm on WEDNESDAY SEPT 9, for all the weather-watchers and procrastinators. Trails are prepped and marked, gravel sections will be marked today. Hope to see you at Montaluce Winery and Restaurant this weekend!

Actually quite a nice day for marking the Fool's Gold Mountain Bike Race singletrack. Signs are up, trees are cut, w**d whacking is done so now we just need to do the no-rain dance. Finally had a proper ride on my new steed - thanks Eddie and James Bros. Bikes for getting me set up - she made hauling all the signs up Bare Hare feel like a day at the spa!!

A bit of a warning to those at the front of the 38 mile race….Mentally prepare for a constant barrage of spiders and spiderwebs. The Joros were out in force and I had to pick webs and spiders off my face every couple hundred feet on Bull Mountain. 🕷️🕷️🕷️ Not so fun, if you’re reading this ya might want to let someone else lead through there. 🕷️🕷️🕷️

Race Shirt Update - Just a handful of sizes remain in the race design. Once we run out, we switch to Mountain Goat Logo shirts so everyone still gets a shirt. Word on the street is that these ended up looking really good.

Race shirts remaining in S through XL are in the single digits, so sign up soon to get your preferred size. Sizes are alloted as you register, the registration system will give you the choice of a "race logo" shirt if there are any remaining in the size you pick. Once we run out, you'll receive a Mountain Goat logo shirt.

It takes an army to host the Fool's Gold Bike Races - here are the volunteer positions we still need to fill on Saturday September 12. These are all in the Dahlonega, GA area. Please email [email protected] if you can assist. All volunteers receive either a $100 entry credit, a 2026 Fool's Gold Entry for a friend/family member, or a $100 donation to a trail organization/youth team of your choice.

6 am to Noon - Parking/Registration/Pre-Lunch Setup
11 am to 5 pm - Bull Mountain Aid Station Crew Member
10 am to 3 pm - Bull Mountain Aid Station Medic
8:30 am to 2:30 pm - Course Marshal
1 pm to 7 pm - Course Marshal
8 am to ?? - Sweep Rider (can be an ebike)
Noon to ?? - Sweep Rider (can be an ebike)
