Progress takes time and effort. I don’t know what sourdough takes.

NEAT is every calorie you burn that isn’t sleeping, eating, or working out. Walking, fidgeting, standing, carrying groceries, pacing on a phone call.

For most people it’s a bigger share of daily energy burn than the workout itself. An hour in the gym is one hour. NEAT is the other fifteen.

It also drops quietly when you diet. Your body pulls back on movement you don’t notice you’re skipping, and progress stalls without a single thing changing on paper.

You don’t fix that with more cardio. You fix it by moving more across the whole day, on purpose.

Ashley is in her 40s and still building muscle.

Not maintaining. Not “toning.” Building.

Here’s what it actually takes.

Protein at every meal, on purpose — not when it happens to be convenient.

Lifting with the intention of getting stronger. Progress on the bar, not just movement for the sake of movement.

Recovery treated like part of the program, not an afterthought. Infrared light, stretching, and putting up with me.

That’s the whole thing. No secret. No shortcut. Just the unglamorous stuff done consistently for years.

If you’re 35 or older and want a better idea of what actually works at this stage of life, reach out.

"You're not 22 anymore. And honestly? That's a good thing."

That's the first line of our group, and it's the thing most people over 40 get wrong. They think the goal is getting their 25-year-old body back. It isn't. The goal is being the strongest, most capable version of who you are right now - at 42, at 51, at 58.

What actually changes after 40: recovery takes longer, hormones shift, and everything you got away with in your 20s stops working.

What doesn't change: muscle still responds. Bone still responds. Your body didn't stop listening. You stopped talking to it.

And if you're a woman in perimenopause who's been told to do more cardio and eat less - that advice is backwards and it's costing you. Ashley and I have watched it play out over and over.

So: what's the one thing that's changed most about your body since 40? Drop it below. I'm answering every single one today.

LFG,
Carl
