Age 83, passed away suddenly on Sun. Feb. 6, 2022. Born in Elmira, Bill was the son of the late, Thomas Sr. & Kathryn (Bradley) Kain. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph. From an early age, he was a true entrepreneur. Bill operated several businesses in his lifetime. He is best known for the many years he operated Bill Kain’s Tire and Service Center and Pedaler’s Choice Bicycle Shop. Bill was dedicated to taking care of his customers. He retired two years ago after serving the community for over 60 years. He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s and St. Stanislaus Churches. Bill enjoyed his private times at Waneta Lake. He was a Volunteer Member of the former West Hill Fire Department. Bill was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Elmira Council #229. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Christine (Patterson) Kain, they have shared 57 years together. Also surviving are their two children, Anne-Marie Kain, Elmira; and Joseph (Heather) Kain, Horseheads; their two grandchildren, Corey and Kelli Kain; a brother, Thomas Jr. (Cindy) Kain, Burdett; a sister, Kay (Bill) McGettrick, Corning, nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, Elmira on Thur. Feb 10, 2022 at 11 a.m. with their pastor and friend, the Rev. Patrick Connor officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery. A livestream of the Mass will be available through the page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraCatholic). N.Y.S. still requires face coverings for all. Pedaler’s Choice Bike Shop and Bill Kain’s Tire & Service are officially closed and the building is sold.
We would like to thank all of our customers who have supported and trusted us throughout the years. Many have blessed us with friendships.
We would also like to thank all the employees who carried the business throughout the growing years. Starting from a Sole Proprietorship to the various Corporation DBA Companies. A special and warm felt thank you to Michael Knott. Words cannot express the appreciation and gratitude we feel for and towards you. Your years of personal attachment, dedication and professionalism is appreciated more than you know.
Last but not least, all of this wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for the help and assistance from the Village of Elmira Heights. Thank you Urban Renewal Agency, Fire, Police, and Street Departments, Court System and the Community. You made it “Happen in the Heights”.
The best news is Bill Kain can relax and somewhat retire after the decades of his hard work and dedication.
