And this is why you don’t say “everyone is ok”

As Maggie, a horsewoman, seemed the only one conscientious of this yesterday- “everyone got up of their own volition and will be evaluated”

I Love Giraffes, one of four horses involved in a frightening spill in the Wild Applause (L) on opening day Friday at Saratoga, has been diagnosed with a fractured left hip and will be sidelined four to five months, trainer Chad Summers told Daily Racing Form.

Well first time starters don’t always love the kickback, even if they were introduced to it in the morning. Still happy Bobby stuck with it and came up for 5th and a 54 beyer.
Extra excited about the participation trophy we will be receiving from Michael Rukin!

So thrilled with the first time out effort by Sunshine Dakotah yesterday. After being squeezed pretty substantially at the start she stayed steady and then came flying from the back of the pack. Tip of the hat to Cesar Gonzalez for sticking with her despite the early placement. Thank you so much to Sunshine Hill Farm. 52 beyer, 68 equibase speed figure for this first attempt.

Thank you everyone who has checked in on Glint. It has been a longer road back to training than expected but we are finally starting back up.
While we escaped major injury, and he was “ok” in that sense, I had a very hard time calling a horse “fine” who was aching everywhere. But his muscles seem to have finally relaxed and recovered from the extreme strain of his incident.

Great representation in TDN today!

When investigating the clipping heels incident the stewards asked Glint if he didn’t notice the 7 drifting into his lane.
Glint replied
“I never saw him coming”

I have had a hard time with deciding what to say about today. Other than knowing I am both sick to my stomach and angry. My horse and his rider were nearly killed because- what? A mistake? An aggressive, pushy vie for position or “just horse racing”? We out-broke the 7 and yet in his rush up he clips heels sending us toppling. Initially it looked like maybe an “equal” fault accident but Zayas merely returned Glint to his path. The seven, by choice or getting out, came out 3-4 wide to him. And people keep asking if, or even bringing it upon themselves to say, everyone is ok.
Ok? My horse was ok grazing 4 days ago. He is not ok now. My rider was ok in race 3, doubt he is now. Try getting in a car accident at 40mph with no seatbelt and, having escaped major injuries, saying “yeah I’m fine.” Neither one of them are ok or will be for at least a few days. Please keep them in your thoughts as they wake up beyond sore tomorrow. As what happened undoubtedly replays in their minds.
That head on is not my horse. You can only see one leg on my horse. That is the #7 completely in front of him.
