Great news! We are seeing some more openings here in the Boundary Waters each day. We are now able to do both day paddle and day motor trips out of many areas including the Moose Chain and Basswood here at LaTourell’s. So if conditions remain stable, our future resort guests will be able to proceed as you had hoped. We’re hoping to see more types of trips opening soon as well including hopefully more camping options. For the immediate few days, those looking at making a canoe trip now have some options though. Feel free to contact us if you want to discuss some great trip options we now have available.

First of all, our local phone company is having some service issues today…nothing related to our July event issues. I have been in contact with them and they are trying to get it fixed. Feel free to email at [email protected] to contact us and I will try to get back to voicemails when I have access again.
Secondly here is the daily look at how good things are looking. No smoke or air quality conditions again as has been the case for about 11 days in a row.
We had a fair amount of rain again last night and this morning. We are now back to the resort full time, as the evacuation order has been lifted here at LaTourell’s. We’re busy getting everything ready for guests again and looking forward to even more of the BWCA reopening.
Conditions continue to improve here in the Boundary Waters here at LaTourell’s on Moose Lake. There hasn’t been smoke for several days. We needed to bail boats here today and this is what it looked like at about noon. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for continued progress. Feel free to call for updates and we hope to have more good news soon.

Sunday Update from LaTourell’s:
As you can see by the photo, the air quality today is great here in Ely this morning. This is on Shagawa Lake on the north side of Ely. We have a new updated BWCA closure until Friday which also aligns with Quetico Park’s current closure. This was set to allow for everyone to have more advanced planning. We will be notifying everyone that is within that window of time and staying hopeful that future dates remain open. We’re hopeful that the improved conditions and the great resources that officials now have in place here allow for even more progress to be made in the coming days. Once we get through the next few days, we will provide more updates on what things look like moving forward following the direction of the officials in charge here. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that conditions are most likely not going to degrade to the almost never before seen conditions we had last Monday. We’re hoping we’re now closer to the time that we can again be welcoming visitors back to LaTourell’s.

This is from last night at the docks here at LaTourell’s on Moose Lake. This haze was much less today as we had a nice rain this morning….but we still need a bunch more to stabilize the current fire conditions. We look forward to when better weather along with the great work of the crews assigned to our area allow us to safely resume getting back out on the wilderness lakes. We will keep contacting all of you set to visit us as we have more information supplied by the governmental agencies in charge as to when activities are going to be able to continue. We’ll also continue to provide current information here on our posts. Thanks!

Winter isn’t quite through with us yet here on Moose Lake.
April showers in Ely today.
Springtime in Ely is a bit unpredictable.

This is the last of the ice floating around Moose Lake this afternoon. Some lakes that are often earlier than Moose had a bit more ice left late today, but most of them should be out tonight. I would guess some of the deeper lakes will be a bit yet, but with all of the rain we’ve been having everything should be getting close soon. Water levels are very high with the rain and the timing of it as you can see in the photos.
