Coach DeClerck’s Midseason Recap: Halfway Mark Achieved, The Best Is Yet to Come!

Last Saturday marked the exhilarating halfway point of the Pacers and Plainsmen cross country season, and what an inspiring journey it has been!

In week one, at our electrifying home season opener, the Pacers delivered a dominant team victory, fueled by outstanding performances from every athlete. Despite graduating four of their seven varsity runners from last season, the Plainsmen faced their opening meet with determination and resilience. While they narrowly missed a win against a formidable Chisholm squad, they revealed a spark and the promise of greatness as the season unfolds.

In week two at Deer Creek, both teams carried their homegrown momentum to the thrilling Deer Creek Field Run. Collectively, they shattered expectations with 18 personal records! The Pacers finished 9th in the elite varsity girls race and 15th in the emerging varsity race, while the Plainsmen clinched 12th place in the elite varsity competition.

In week three, the Pacers and Plainsmen ventured into new territory at the Owasso Ram Charge Relays, a thrilling cross country relay event. The Pacers, divided into three teams, battled fiercely against 52 other relays: Enid (A) soared to 6th, Enid (B) captured 30th, and Enid (C) finished 44th. The Plainsmen faced off against a staggering 83 teams and also fielded three squads. Enid (A) claimed 9th, Enid (B) took 28th, and Enid (C) finished 68th. Every runner rose to the challenge, testing new limits and showing incredible teamwork.

Week four brought even more excitement as the Pacers and Plainsmen competed under the lights at the Mustang Night Race, one of Oklahoma’s premier cross country events!
The Pacers faced off against some of Oklahoma's top teams in every class and delivered high-level performances. In the 6A competition, the varsity girls powered their way to an impressive 3rd-place finish, and our JV squad clinched a strong 4th in their division!
The Plainsmen matched that intensity, competing against three top-15 teams—including a victory over #13-ranked Stillwater, and ultimately capturing 3rd place among all 6A contenders!

Overall, both the Pacers and Plainsmen have enjoyed an inspiring start to their seasons. Team chemistry is at an all-time high, and every athlete has maintained a positive attitude while conquering the challenges that Mother Nature has thrown their way over the past 60 days.

Thank you to everyone who has cheered on this remarkable group of student-athletes. If you haven’t seen them compete yet, I encourage you to mark your calendar, their performances are truly something to behold!

The Pacers wrapped up their week with a solid morning workout this morning. This week they faced many challenges, including multiple morning practices, trying to get quality mileage while running indoors and uncertain if they would be able to run outside in the afternoons. Their dedication and flexibility throughout the week have prepared them for an inspiring performance at the Mustang Night Race on Saturday night. Great job and good luck, ladies!
