Here are a few pics of Kakabeka Falls, outside Thunder Bay ON. Plenty of water in the Kaministiquia River, and plenty of construction on CA-17 traveling east from Winnipeg.

As the Chairman for the Great Lakes Cabot Trail Tour, I received a report from Jim Valentine, a GLCTT Rider. He stopped in Wawa, Ontario in search of the Giant Canada Goose, the latest "landmark" included on the Additional Points of Interest page. Jim found one at the Visitor's Center, but just a little further down the road, he found TWO MORE... there seems to be a flock of those giants up there, so he photographed the three that he saw! That first one can be found at the intersection of TC17 and HWY 101.

Congratulations to Trina Williams and Susan Bithell on the attainment of their Great Lakes Cabot Trail Tour! Trina and Susan completed it as part of an extended ride through the Northeast and Canadian Maritimes with fellow motorcyclists Beth Simon and Michelle Kluth. These longtime friends are all members of the SoCal chapter of the Chrome Divas female motorcycle organization. Though some have relocated to other parts of the country, this group of riders plans an annual adventure to catch up and enjoy each other's company. My thanks to them for sharing pictures of their trip; I hope everyone enjoys following along.

Our GLCTT Ride Chair received a picture from a tour participant of a photo opportunity they captured near Wawa ON during their ride across the north side of Lake Superior. I've added a map with the approximate location and the POI in Basecamp. This is NOT a required stop, but something unique that you might want to include in your GLCTT trip planning.

A few fun facts:

- A goose was chosen because the word "Wawa" means "wild goose" or "land of the big goose" in Ojibwe.
- The goose monument is 28 feet tall, 22 feet long and has a 20 foot wingspan
- It is located at the junction of the last link of the Trans-Canada Highway

The beacon at Split Rock Lighthouse is only lit on special occasions anymore...Very fitting that they chose to honor the passing of singer Gordon Lightfoot in this manner, and yield a photo that is rare to obtain these days.

"The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead"

Tonight we honored the legacy of folk singer Gordon Lightfoot, who died on May 1 at the age of 84. Although not a native Minnesotan, his 1976 hit song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" is indelibly tied to Minnesota's North Shore of Lake Superior.

His music touched so many we thought this was a fitting tribute.
