Last night was a great evening at the 2023 induction ceremony for the . This years class included and Gary Manchel, Head Coach of the . We are so proud to be connected with these two great men.

We are blessed to have supported Ryan’s off-season development program for every year of his professional career. His career is littered with tremendous accolades, none greater then becoming the starting goaltender for in 2018 Olympic Games.

For the last 9 seasons we have been on the coaching staff lead by Coach Manchel serving as the strength & conditioning coach. Throughout this time we have been connected with so many fantastic young men and are so grateful to have worked with them and shared in their success. Over the last 9 season we have made 7 trips to the NCAA tournament, advancing to the Elite in 2018.

Congrats again to Ryan and Gary!

Raising kids in todays youth sports environment is harder today then it has ever been!

Two of my kids, Siobhan (13, Basketball/Softball) and Griffin (10, Basketball/Baseball/Lacrosse), are highly involved in sports. So I am right there with you all as a parent wanting to provide everything I can to help my kids be successful.

But what path is the best?

Should they do multiple sports, one sport, private skill training, should they just complete locally, travel leagues, what about weightlifting (when should they start), do they need a separate speed coach?

These are just some of the questions parents ask themselves in todays crazy youth sports world.

The simple fact is that regardless of any of those above choices, the better athletes tend to be more successful. So how do we ensure that our kids are developing athleticism the right way and they don’t just “luck out” or rely solely on the “genetic wheel of chance”?

The video below is a summation of over a decade-long (and continual) study of long term athletic development (LTAD). It is with this information that we have formed and refined our training system here at LFP, and developed a pathway for my own children to walk themselves down.

The problem is that in this day and age it is hard to take them down this pathway even when you know the science behind it. It is so easy to to compile one season right on another year round. We keep our kids busy (and out of trouble), but are they staying busy with the right thing?

This video will hopefully shed some light on what the correct developmental pathway is for young athletes, and allow us as parents to make better educated decisions about the athletic development of our children.

This one is tough...

I can second Coach Durkoske’s struggle to fight back tears as I write this and as I was texting with Alex’s Mother Laura this morning.

Alex is one of the hardest workers to ever walk into Lewis Fitness & Performance and an absolute pleasure to coach. His greatness as an athlete is only surpassed by quality of a young man!

As bad as everyone feels about this truly unfortunate event his response to it is the lesson for all...

“Seems to me you will see him in the gym before you know it as he’s going to want to recondition that leg for sure!”

This was what Laura said to me earlier today when I asked about how Alex was taking this set back.

Prayers for the quickest of recoveries Alex! We will be there to guide you back, and you will be there to set the ultimate example of what it means to be a student athlete!

Proud of you kid!

-Geoff
