With the Olympics just around the corner, it's a good time to remind everyone that we're still underestimating how difficult it is to play NCAA DI athletics.

For the Winter Olympics, it's 1 in every 27 million.

For NCAA DI, it's 1 in every 40,000.

Michigan State University, for example, has approx. 50,000 students enrolled. So imagine one single student on the entire campus.

A friendly reminder that you can still love, have passion for and train your butt off for a sport even if DI isn't your goal or you don't get a roster spot.

Just like you can learn to play the guitar and not want to be a world famous musician.

is back with more sports psychology and mental health advocacy!

It's tough because a lot of times we have to go to difficult places when we want to heal ourselves in this field. But think about it like rehabbing a broken leg. The doctor can do surgery, put you in a cast and give you some painkillers, but if you don't do the rehab exercises at home it will be much harder to use that leg to its full capacity in the long-term.

Feel free to reach out to Michael if you or someone you know is struggling!

Once the shin goes down at the start, look how the athlete's right leg doesn't really move at all until the final push off.

This slow-mo example highlights how acceleration is much more -power- based than many people realize.

Accelerating isn't just moving your legs as fast as possible right out the gate. It's powerful, violent pushes into and off the ground HARD to propel you forward and generate speed.

Strength IS speed!

Can you believe one entire month of 2026 is already gone??

Time really flies!

There's still a few months before summer, but now's the time to start thinking about your goals so you have a plan.

Do you have college starting next fall? Which high school year are you going into? Is this your chance to make varsity or start the recruiting process? Is there a prep school or academy you want to attend? Maybe a national try-out?

I know most of you don't have "off-seasons" these days. But I promise you, if you have big goals like any of those mentioned, it might be time to seriously consider doing a real off-season.

If you really want to get faster and stronger for your main sport, you NEED to take time and focus on strength, speed and conditioning.

If you or your parents are not sure what that looks like, PLEASE give us a call, DM or chat with us after a session. We want to do whatever we can to help you achieve your dreams.

Did you know: Coach Tony was a Parisi athlete himself?

That's right! Everything we teach you in class he learned himself as a youth athlete and then mastered again through his Parisi certification and through thousands of hours coaching.

While not all coaches were Parisi athletes, each one has to attend the same Parisi certification course and receives mentorship from Coach Tony to ensure your athlete gets the highest quality of training possible in Vermont.

As we always say, there's nothing we teach that we don't do or haven't done ourselves. We walk the walk as much as we talk the talk!!

Smooth like 🧈

Remember, the key to agility and speed is efficiency. You may "feel" like you're moving fast and trying really hard, but you might be over-doing it and tiring yourself out in the process.

That's why you need to learn the foundations so you can cut out unnecessary movements and strike your cuts and starts with precision.

If you can rip out 15-20 bodyweight deadbugs, it's time for an upgrade!!

Lots of athletes don't realize basic bodyweight mobility or core exercises should be advanced after a certain point by adding weight.

By adding a small weight to each hand, you challenge the core and the shoulder in an overhead position.

Only advance to this once you can do 15-20 bodyweight ones CORRECTLY (back on the ground, leg all the way out etc...).

There has been a lot of buzz lately about grip strength as an indicator for longevity. But is it really grip strength itself?

National geographic added this to their report: "At the same time, improving grip strength in isolation misses the bigger picture. Because grip strength is just a proxy for overall strength, the most effective approach is regular resistance training that challenges the hands as part of larger movements—lifting, pulling, carrying, and stabilizing weight while also engaging the legs, core, and cardiovascular system"

In other words... people who lift weights and train have a strong grip. It's the LIFTING that's important.

People are always look for ways to get out of lifting weights and still be healthy, but study after study show exercising is the top preventative measure for nearly every late-life health issue.

Especially because after 30 bone and muscle loss happens faster and its harder to gain. This is why its so important to get your kids into the gym ASAP so they (hopefully) learn to love it and continue training through high school and college.

They build up strong muscles and bone density and then have the knowledge to maintain it for the rest of their life.

Lifting for sports is for longevity.

After sitting in a chair all day, make sure you give your outer hips some love.

This area is often tight and can feel pinchy when doing movements like squats or low agility movements.

In our warm ups we do "leg lifts" in many directions, but this one is usually the hardest for almost everyone.

The most important thing is contracting the muscles and making sure you're not over rotating to the side just so you get your leg in the air. If it only comes off a little bit that's okay as long as you feel the muscle working!

Our founder, Bill Parisi, has been talking more and more about how important the foot is to athletic development.

Most shoes are too small, too cushion-y and not designed for athletic movements.

So many kids come into our sessions with "lifestyle" sneakers to train or giant soled running shoes which are not optimal for sprinting and agility movements.

Did you know there are 29 muscles associated with the foot?? It is the FOUNDATION of ALL your movement.

The more babying you do the feet, the weaker all of these muscles get. That's why the feet hurt. That's why shin splits can start to happen. That's why calves are sore. And this is where a lot of problems start.

It's a big part of our program here in Vermont, and if one of the best, OG speed coaches in the world is saying it, it's probably something you should be thinking about!!
