Closing the Gap- How Your Kayak is Made, Gelcoat

Joey is an accomplished and knowledgable kayak repair guy and boat builder. Does both wood and composites. One of his new endeavors is producing a composite version of Guillemot Kayak's Petrel Play - an awesome play boat. I had a test drive and it's a miracle of modern science. Weighs just 40 lbs but is built like a tank. Super stable but high performance. Long water line but short overall.
Just ordered one myself.
Take a peek behind the curtain and check out this article.

SEA KAYAK ADVENTURE: EXPERIENCE VS CONSEQUENCE - SeaSherpa

Discussions of Sea Kayak safety can be preachy and yawny. Hope I avoided both here. Enjoy

SEA KAYAK ADVENTURE: EXPERIENCE VS CONSEQUENCE - SeaSherpa SEA KAYAK ADVENTURE: EXPERIENCE VS CONSEQUENCE I’ve been thinking much lately about how our level of experience can impact (pun) the potential of ugly consequence – namely broken boats and bodies. As open water paddlers, we all have a bit of adrenaline j***y in us and it’s worth having a think...

9/16 - 9/20
SHOODIC PENINSULA, DOWNEAST MAINE
CO-PRESENTED BY SEA SHERPA KAYAK, GUILLEMOT KAYAK AND CHESAPEAKE LIGHT CRAFT

My personal favorite event of the season.

This unique event offers a one-of-a-kind combination of open water instructional, exploratorium and fine-living retreat. This region exemplifies the very best of rugged, remote and dramatic downeast shoreline.

There is a non-paddling friends and family program with it's own events and a dedicated boat swap day and rent-a-boat option so everyone can try Nick's Schade's boats in the waters they were designed for.

The staff features Gerry Polinsky and Nick Schade joined by Barb Todd and Joey Schott with Carl Tjerandsen, Eric Hansen and Joell Jacob running the off water programming.

Sea Sherpa Kayak LLC

Sea Sherpa was founded by Gerry Polinsky in 2009. After decades of winter mountain adventure (on skis, crampons, snowshoes and rope) he was looking to expand his expedition capacity to allow for 4 seasons. Gerry traded an old pick up truck for a couple of kayaks and it was love at first site.

Gerry has worked his skills and certifications. He is a Registered Maine Sea Kayak Guide, a British Canoe Advanced Sea Leader (5 Star), an American Canoe Association L5 Advanced Open Water Instructor, National Outdoor Leadership School Trained Winter Outdoor Educator and has a SOLO Wilderness First Aid certification.

Gerry loves to instruct in the conditions he loves to play in: active open water. He thinks learning those skills are best when just north of challenging but certainly south of scary. Sea Sherpa is a no boat/body break zone and we try to keep chest pounding to an absolute minimum. Even on group events, instruction is always geared towards the individual paddler’s wants and needs.
