If you watched my tribute to William “Bill” Cooke during last steelhead season, you know he was a friend to this channel.

After the tribute was released, one of Bill’s fishing buddies, Kevin, reached out and asked if I’d like to spend a couple days fishing the Columbia with him and Bill’s lifelong friend, Henry. I knew of both of them because Bill had mentioned them over the years.

So this week, three fishermen came together through one common friend: Bill.

Thanks to Kevin’s expertise, we had a couple awesome days on the Columbia, catching some beautiful Chinook and sharing plenty of stories about Bill. We talked about how each of us met him and realized just how much we had in common.

We started the trip as three fishermen connected by Bill, and left as friends of our own. 🎣

Hopefully, this becomes a trip we get to make together for years to come. I think Bill would have liked that. 🎣

I’ve been impressed with the Compre Salmon / Steelhead rods, I’m interested to see some of these new models.

South Sister Summits August 21, 2024; August 21, 2025 and I wanted so bad to do August 21, 2026. However, availability and an ankle injury didn’t allow 2026. So I had to settle for 27:29 to the summit of Mt. Pisgah. Maybe August 21, 2027 I can do it again. 😞

First 3 shots at 100 yards through the Tikka 6.5 CM with ELDX 143 grains. I’ll wait to make final corrections until I shoot it with my TBAC suppressor. However, I’m pretty happy with a sub 3/4” group.
