PRESS RELEASE

FOR RELEASE ON MAY 9, 2017

NASHVILLE, TN
Friends of Tennessee State Parks Award First Mini Grants
The Friends of Tennessee State Parks (FOTSP) Board of Directors announced today that nearly $4,000 has been awarded to nine Tennessee State Park Friends Groups. Grants awarded will fund projects including trail signage, educational kiosks, interpretive signage, interpretive wildlife replicas and period specific clothing for re-enactors.
“Tennessee State Parks wishes to congratulate the recipients of this year’s Mini Grants provided by the Friends of Tennessee State Parks,” said Jeff Wells, Director of Interpretative Programs and Education at Tennessee State Parks. “We are confident that these funded projects will enhance the visitors’ experience within our state park system.”
The following Friends groups received a Mini Grant:
Fort Loudoun Association – Historical Exhibit ($500)
Friends of Edgar Evins State Park – Story Trail ($500)
Friends of Harrison Bay State Park – Wildlife Replicas and Sandbox Table ($486)
Friends of Henry Horton State Park – Educational Kiosk ($360)
Friends of Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park – Trail Markers ($198)
Friends of Reelfoot Lake State Park – Interpretive Signage ($500)
Friends of Rocky Fork State Park – Trailhead Kiosk ($400)
Friends of Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park – Reenactment Clothing ($500)
Friends of T.O. Fuller State Park – Trail Enhancements ($500)
Funding was raised by FOTSP through various events and partnerships including a silent auction at the 13th annual Friends Conference, and contributions from Stonehaus Winery, Tennessee Brew Works and Rock/Creek Outfitters. These funds have allowed FOTSP to offer up to $500 to help fund small enhancement projects at Tennessee State Parks. This program is especially helpful to groups with limited resources.
With continued statewide support from our Tennessee State Park’s Friends Groups and their surrounding communities, the Friends of Tennessee State Parks expect to expand their membership and grow this worthwhile program.

The storybook was added to the Wildflower Trail located behind the park office. It was already a great family trail & now it is a perfect outdoor learning experience for all!

Thank you to the Tennessee State Parks Conservancy, the Governor's Early Literacy Foundation & the Benton Co BOLLD Grant for supporting this project!

What a busy day for our Park Rangers yesterday. First, they helped usher in the Christmas season by leading the Eva Community Christmas Parade! It was great to see such a good community turn out.

Then last night, our Rangers joined Officers & Dispatchers from the Camden Police Dept, Benton County Sherrif's Dept, TN Dept of Corrections, Carroll County Sherriff's Dept, & TBI for the "Shop with a Cop" event. It was such a joy to watch our Rangers serve those in our community. To see the joy on all the faces of all the children & families that benefited from this event was overwhelming!!
