two weeks late but better late than never

FIRST OVERALL in the 5 miler. I knew I wasn’t prepared for the Evansville Half but I got my confidence/talked into signing up for the 5 miler and holy s**t I was the first person to finish 😳 trust me, by me reaction at the end you woulda thought I ran 13 half’s.

my running journey has been a long one, started by being told I “wasn’t a runner” as a kid to a serious injury 8 or 9 years ago, shin splits, and plantar fasciitis l.

but two weeks into 75 Hard and walking outdoors I got bored and decided to run some intervals and then two days later I went to see how long I could go without stopping and suddenly I was running 3 days a week 4-5 miles at a time.

I am so thankful and blessed to be surrounded by women and men who see my potential and push me. and thanks to and whose voices I hear in my ear during every run reminding me to and that I can do hard things.

here’s to being prepared for next years half 🍻

Today was supposed to be a serendipitous end to my 75 Hard Challenge and closing on my house. While the house closing got pushed back, 75 Hard is COMPLETE!

75 Hard is something I have wanted to do and was one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I have kept pretty quiet about it for the last two and half months because I didn’t want to have other peoples’ opinions, judgements, and temptations thrown at me. It took almost 2 years for me to get started and my only regret is not getting started sooner and I’m already planning for the next one.

75 HARD is a mental toughness challenge. Everyday you have a set of tasks to complete, simple tasks, the things you’d normally let yourself say “eh, it can wait” only for 75 days, it’s can’t.

- two 45 min workouts a day (one outside)
- drink a gallon of water
- read 10 pages of a non-fiction book
- follow a diet; no cheat meals or alcohol
- take a progress picture

There’s no one telling you what exact workout to do, what exact book to read, what exact diet to follow… you just have to do it. You have to plan your day, you have to wash the dishes in the sink then sit down to read, you have to go out when it’s pouring outside because you put off your workout, you have to make yourself uncomfortable. You are the one building yourself up.

This wasn’t about making a small change, it was about shifting my whole mindset. It wasn’t soft or gentle… it was HARD. But guess what? I can do hard things and so can you!

So forgive me for keeping this mostly a secret and allow me some time to get my thoughts down. Because I have A LOT more to say.

2. the shoes I literally wore holes into over the 75 days

today’s practice was one of those were I left it all on the mat. my entire body was buzzing after my practice; whether i was drenched in humidity or sweat I’m not sure. i just let my spirit move my body and it was good, it was cleansing. 🙏

Down Dog is the app I use for my at home practice and they are currently running specials to use their apps for free!

This is for ALL Down Dog apps if you are a student, teacher, or healthcare worker. If I am reading right, just the meditation app if you are a layman. I typically just use the free version of the Yoga app but there are even more features on the paid (now free to you) version.

Might as well give it a shot! I truly Love the Down Dog Yoga app and recommend it over any YouTube channel because even the free version is so customizable.

fail, but make it look intentional.
i always tell my students it’s not about IF you fall, it’s about HOW you fall. and we always end tough postures with a “ta-da!” moment of pride and gratitude 🙏
