Much of what we live in the dojo today has its roots in the philosophy of Gichin Funakoshi.

The founder of Shotokan and the master who brought Karate from Okinawa to mainland Japan, he believed that the true purpose of training was not to win fights, but to build character.

By introducing Karate into Japanese universities, he helped transform it into a path of education, discipline, and personal development.

His 20 guiding principles — the Niju Kun — continue to remind us that Karate goes far beyond technique.

In the end, it is not about victory or defeat.
It is about who you become along the way.
