Answer those hard questions (truthfully)
So you're asking yourself the hard questions to set meaningful goals for yourself... but are you answering them honestly? Are you answering them at all?
If you don't answer yourself honestly, your goals will mean nothing. But, more importantly, if you can't answer yourself honestly to figure out what you want out of life, how are you getting through life? Are you actually happy with yourself? Can you look yourself in the mirror? Or are you just uncomfortable with the truth?
Bottom line is that if you want to make meaningful change in your life, you need direction (a goal). To set a meaningful goal for yourself, you need to be honest with yourself and with those from whom you seek help along the way.

Ask yourself the hard questions
A lot of times, when people set goals for themselves, they don't ask themselves the hard questions that will help them set it as something meaningful. So they end up with something arbitrary that they don't really care about and never reach.
To set an effective goal for yourself, it needs to mean something to you. To figure out what that is, you need to ask yourself some hard questions AND answer them TRUTHFULLY. Without answering those hard questions honestly, you end up with an empty shell that you're calling a goal, but isn't really.
There are a lot of questions you could ask yourself. They all typically have follow ups. Here are some examples:
- What do I want out of life?
- Am I happy with my life as it is right now?
- Is the path I'm currently on sustainable for years/decades to come?
- Do I want to be a grumpy 70 year old in a nursing home who barely moves, or the happy 90 year old my neighbors worry about because I'm still climbing onto the roof to clean the gutters?

What are your goals?
This might be one of the most annoying questions in the fitness industry. Many people will give a generic answer without really thinking about what they want out of life.
And that's what figuring out your goals is all about. What do you want out of life?
What do you want to do? WHY do you want to do it? Will it make your life fuller? Etc.
Figure out what you really want out of life, then make it happen.
Are you too busy or too busy procrastinating?
There's a difference. Sometimes our schedules are legitimately busy. However, many times procrastination sneaks into your life disguised as productivity.
Next time you tell yourself you're "too busy" to do something, take a quick look to determine if that's true.
Life is busy. It's also too short not to take care of yourself.
Everybody's busy. Look at your life, figure out what's realistic for you to accomplish, make a plan to get it done, then execute the plan.
Change doesn't happen without action.
How to establish nutrition systems
Pick one thing about your diet that you want to change, and turn it into something repeatable on a daily or weekly basis.
This could be anything from planning, purchasing, preparing, or eating your meals.
One example is the client who buys takeout every night. She doesn't plan her meals for the week, so she doesn't have a grocery list, and ends up reacting to whatever the easiest takeout option is when dinner time sneaks up on her.
One system this client could start to work on is simply planning out her dinners for the week. Each week, she could take a few minutes to write down what she'll eat for dinner each night. This tells her what to buy from the grocery store. Now there are no surprises when dinner time rolls around.
This simple system of having a plan gives her more control over what she eats, and likely saves a good deal of money.

How to get consistent at the gym
Walk through the door.
It doesn't matter if you're tired, you "don't feel like it," you feel good, your cat growled at you earlier, or whatever other state of being you want to insert here. You get consistent at the gym by walking through the door and SHOWING UP FOR YOUSELF.
You aren't going to smash PRs or feel AMAZING during or after every workout, but you will be happy that you got it done. Over time, your body will thank you for keeping it moving and all of those days where it felt hard just to get to the gym will pay major dividends later on.
Make this investment now. Reap the rewards later.
Walk through the door. Easy enough!
