🦉 A Piece of Iowa Nature You Can Wear! 🌲

This unique pendant came in the mail from a naturalist with the Floyd County Conservation Department in Iowa. The pendant contains the bottom jawbone of what is most likely a shrew, which was discovered inside an owl pellet.

Owls swallow their prey whole, and after digesting what they can, they regurgitate the indigestible parts—bones, fur, and teeth—in the form of an owl pellet. So this little jawbone is actually a tiny piece of the story left behind from a Barred Owl’s meal. 🦉

And let's be honest… Mason Schares is a total nerd when it comes to stuff like this! 😂🤓 Getting something this unique from one of my favorite birds of prey—the Barred Owl—is seriously pretty awesome. I love the little pieces of nature and wildlife history that most people would probably overlook.

There’s a story behind everything you find in the outdoors. You just have to be nerdy enough to appreciate it! 🌲🦉🤓
