GREAT NEWS FAIRBANKS GOLFERS!

The rumors are true! We have sold the golf course, and finally closed the deal yesterday. The new owners are already working hard to prepare for opening again.

There is extensive remodeling going on in the clubhouse, and the course has been mowed back down, and looking good again.

AND...they have RENAMED the venue "MIDNIGHT SUN GOLF COURSE", and started a new page and web site.

Midnight Sun Golf Course As America's Northernmost USGA course, our 18-hole golf course offers locals and visitors alike a variety of holes and strategic challenges in the interior of Alaska. Midnight Sun has breathtaking views of the Alaska Range with a views of Denali.

North Star has become a favorite place to walk dogs, skijor, watch wildlife and enjoy a unique environment of well drained grassland surrounded by wetlands and spruce forest.

Now that glyphosate has been found to be a carcinogen, you will be happy to know that North Star Golf club has NEVER used an herbicide of any kind, in spite of the presence of dandelions, clover, and other weeds. With constant mowing and occasional fertilization, the grasses are the dominant species, and the course has never looked better.

In our 25 years, North Star Golf Course has grown into a beautiful place to play. We are still hoping to find a new owner/owners to take over the reigns before Mother Nature takes over completely.

The course has operated in the black for over a decade now. We are simply ready to have our summers free in our golden years.

Our longtime friend and course worker Hans Sobanja has left us too soon. He was a fixture on our mowers and top dressers for many seasons. We will miss him.

Most North Star Golf Club members have seen the bubbles. Many have poked them with a tee and watched as the escaping methane burns at the flick of a bic.

For methane researcher, golf course bubbles are a first "It’s an area that I and some other colleagues have started thinking about: can you get methane forming in terrestrial environments? But it’s a very new area of science," carbon scientist Katey Walter Anthony said.
