The Road Trip Bar and Grill
In all the years that I have driven up and down Hwy 16, I have never stopped at The Road Trip Bar and Grill. Honestly, today was going to be no different. Carla, Jacob and I loaded up into the car and headed out with plans to stop for lunch at the Guinda Commons, an out of the way cafe that we all love(ed). I decided to check and see if the Guinda Commons was open for business, on a Sunday afternoon. They unfortunately were not, much to my dismay, and from the fact that both Google and Yelp listed it as “Permanently Closed” we might not ever eat there again!
I refuse to eat at the Cache Creek Casino, and being that we were all hungry, we all opted for The Road Trip Bar and Grill. The Bar and Grill is located at 24989 CA-16, Capay, CA 95607 and they describe themselves as, and I quote “Old-timey roadside haunt with a full bar dishing up American comfort food in a laid-back atmosphere.” For the most, part I would say this is a pretty accurate description of the place. The decor was that of a modern day road trip café with a slight old school feel. The tables were covered with all sorts of fun facts and local articles. They also had placed card games to pass the time. We all found this to be a great distraction as we waited for our food (which didn’t take long at all).
Our waitress was friendly and a great sport when it came to kidding around. She was very prompt and accurate with our orders as well as being very attentive to our beverage needs. Carla ordered the fish and chips, Jacob ordered a small 8 slice pizza and I ordered the hamburger. For drinks it was water all the way around!!! Very much to my surprise the food was great, I only say that because I was not sure what to expected and I was pleasantly surprised when the food arrived. The Hamburger was of a good quality. Not the best I have ever had, but by no means the worst. Carla’s fish and chips in both of our estimations was great. Not too oily and it came with four good size strips of fish. I was most impressed with Jacobs’s cheese pizza it was 8 slices and cost $5.49. I did not have my tape measure handy but I would guess it was about 14 inches in diameter.
Over all we left The Road Trip Bar and Grill feeling like we had found a new place to eat in the Capay Valley. The Road Trip Bar and Grill is a clean, laid back and budget friendly place to eat. There is both indoor and outdoor dining areas along with an attached mini mart if you are in a hurry and do not have the time for a sit down meal. My overall opinion is that this is a very cool low key place to eat when heading down CA-16.
