Itโs important to create consistency each time you approach the barbell.
Although everyoneโs set up will look different, here are some general cognitive cues to focus on:
๐ฃ Plant your feet and do NOT allow them to move during the rep.
๐ฅ Get a GIANT gulp of air and brace your core firmly against the belt (If wearing one) as if someone is going to punch you in the gut.
๐ Keep elbows as high as humanely possible throughout the squat and look UP as this also helps keep your chest up!

I hope my story can ๐ผ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ผ๐
๐ธ you to keep your head in the game and keep your goals at the forefront of your journey.
I started going to college in Florida when I was 22. 1 year in working full time and being a student was HARD. I kept at it, working to pay off my classes and support myself. I didnโt have a family or any scholarships.
Then there came a day that I will ๐๐๐๐๐ forget. I went to the financial aid office looking for some type of grant/scholarship. Them: โYou donโt qualify, youโve been independent for 7 yearsโ.
Me โSo.. what else can I do to get some assistance?โ
Them โYou could get on welfare or have a childโ.
Straight up, stone cold that was my answer at 23 years old.
That was a HARD pass for me. So I went to a recruiters office instead. Signed on the dotted line and then ๐พ๐จ๐ฐ๐ป๐ฌ๐ซ for another 9 months to get the job I wanted in the military (which I failed out of in a matter of 2 months).
So I ๐พ๐จ๐ฐ๐ป๐ฌ๐ซ again, became a medic at 24 years old and got stationed at Travis AFB. I settled into my new home and new position and started school again part time. Even on my TDYโs and deployment I would try my best to study even when I couldnโt be enrolled in classes.
Fast forward to 2019 when I was faced with another ๐๐๐๐ life decision to take over the gym I was a part time manager at or stay in a career field I didnโt enjoy. I made the ๐๐๐๐๐๐
I seperated from the AirForce and became gym owner!
2 weeks later, ๐ช๐ถ๐ฝ๐ฐ๐ซ. Nothing in my journey of adulthood could have prepared me for the year of 2020. Hell, Iโm still picking up the pieces of the pandemic, business mistakes, personal mistakes, and more. I felt alone and scared most days.
There were a few constants during that year, Godโs Grace and my education.
Itโs been a long road, yโall. As Iโm sure it is for anyone looking for a higher education.
These 3 sheets of paper might not mean much to most companies out there these days, yet they represent so much more to me. This is just the beginning.
