Preparing such an amazing group with diverse backgrounds & experience has been challenging, but has also been extremely rewarding. I'm already proud & super-excited to coach this team, watch them figure things out, come together & continue to grow in so many ways. I'm hoping to open some eyes to the importance of preseason training for football. For some reason, football falls behind other sports when it comes to finding ways to prepare for the upcoming season.
Football, just like other sports and possibly even more importantly, has some important fundamentals that are critical in athlete's performance during the season. Learning how to make contact when blocking and tackling specifically come to mind. Young and less experienced football athletes often struggle with contact, mainly because it's not easy to be aggressive and confident when making contact. Some athletes are naturally aggressive and some are not. However, this can be learned just like anything else. Furthermore, youth football is set up in a way that doesn't allow a ton of time during the season to work on these skills. Throw in the fact that almost every year, the players are getting new coaches who are usually volunteer coaches with little to no experience teaching these skills. This makes it even harder for the coaches because they have to almost start from scratch every year which causes even further time constraints.
I have had the chance to coach at many different levels for many different programs so I know that this is a problem. It's a reason why I spend much of the summer working with teams and youth players preparing them for the most important physical and mental aspects of the game in our Complete FB Training Programs.
There is nothing more fulfilling than watching how much being prepared with a better understanding of most of the principles of the game helps younger football athletes improve their confidence, aggression, and overall success.

Attention youth football athletes grades 3 to 6. Jumpstart your football preparation with a 2-week (Tuesdays & Thursdays 5-6 pm) Complete FB Program designed to build the physical & mental skills to needed to play the game.
Football, like every other sport, requires an understanding of the fundamental aspects that are intricate to the game. Our program is centered around the development of these skills & teaching an awareness of most important components of the game to improve their confidence & ability to perform when needed. Complete Football includes the following:
-teaching position specific stance and start
-developing the fundamentals of athleticism
-using the USA Football method to progressively build a framework of understanding to block & tackle safely & efficiently
-teaching how to carry & run with the football
-develop hand-eye coordination to catch the football
-learn how to play position specific defense (taking on blocks & pursuing the ball)
-position specific offensive & defensive skill development
-learn & develop the most important fundamental aspects of the game

Basketball requires an extreme amount of athleticism & skill. However, in my experience working with players, teams, & coaches, a common problem is the need to become stronger, quicker, more explosive, & more athletic. Also, nagging & season-ending injuries are all too common. In looking deeper, I've noticed the need for hoop athletes to place a greater priority on integrating a strength, speed, & athletic development program within their preparation process. Basketball enthusiasts are playing the game at a younger age & spending more time practicing basketball-specific skills, however, they are not allocating the time needed to build a more solid foundation of strength, speed, & athleticism, especially at a young age. Too often, in these situations, older athletes, even being more advanced, have developed some underlying condition or mechanical habit that limits their performance or causes an energy leak forcing the body to compensate which eventually leads to nagging pains and minor or major injury. It's critical for all aspiring athletes, to get involved or get assessed by a QUALIFIED Strength & Conditioning Coach in order to gauge current status & design a long-term plan to maximize athletic efficiency & minimize the risk of injury.
