⚓ FACES OF FAIRHOPE | Meet Shelby Hangen
Meet Shelby Hangen, Assistant Marina Manager at Fairhope Docks Marina!
From helping boaters with fuel and slip reservations to checking vessels, adjusting dock lines and keeping the waterfront clean and safe, Shelby helps keep the marina running smoothly every day.
One of her proudest moments came in January 2026, when Fairhope Docks Marina became Alabama’s first Clean & Resilient Marina. 🌊
Shelby is Deaf and communicates through spoken language with a cochlear implant, lip reading and sign language. She also uses a video relay service to assist with marina phone calls—something that often surprises boaters when they meet her in person!
Outside of work, Shelby enjoys hiking, boating, gardening, cooking and baking homemade sourdough. She’s also been horseback riding since she was 10. Her 29-year-old palomino Quarter Horse, Goldi, has been with her since high school and is now enjoying retirement right here in Fairhope. 🐴
What does Shelby love most about working on the waterfront? Watching the sailboats head onto Mobile Bay, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and visits from family and friends.
Her favorite advice says it all: “Work hard. Stay humble.”
We’re proud to have Shelby as one of the many faces that make Fairhope special. 💙
