The Fairhope Municipal Pier is a local landmark and considered the city’s, “town square.” We always suggest visitors take a stroll to the end and back to get a picturesque view of Mobile Bay. In the summer, bring a hat, sunglasses, and water, and hopefully a bay breeze will greet you on your way. 📸: Karen Aaron

QUAIL CREEK GOLF COURSE WILL AEIRFY THE FRONT SIDE GREENS, THURSDAY MORNING JUNE 11TH, 2026.
We aerate to improve, not annoy. Putting greens receive more traffic than any other playing surface. The aeration process helps relieve the compaction caused by all that traffic. It also helps create a firm, smooth putting surface by controlling thatch and promoting healthy turf roots.
Greens aerification is an essential maintenance practice where golf course grounds crews punch holes into putting greens and remove soil cores. This relieves soil compaction, controls thatch, and improves water drainage, creating healthier, firmer, and faster putting surfaces. To visualize what aerification looks like, the process generally unfolds in a few distinct phases documented by agronomists and golf courses:Pinching the Holes: Machines called aerators use various sizes of hollow or solid tines to punch patterns into the turf. This action pulls cylindrical soil plugs (cores) out of the green, leaving a grid of small voids behind.
Clean-Up: Workers drag heavy mats or brushes across the green to break up the extracted cores and push the loose organic matter off the putting surface.
Topdressing: The empty holes are heavily filled with sand that matches the green's original construction. This sand is brushed or dragged deep into the canopy.
Healing & Recovery: Immediately after the process, the green appears checkered with tiny holes and sand. Over the next 7 to 14 days, the aggressive turfgrass grows back over the holes, leaving behind a pristine, smooth, and breathable putting surface.
