Jiujitsu through the eyes of a 41 year old mother of 2.

When this 17 year old kid came to the garden I knew right away he was something special. Most people use pressure through weight but Max uses pressure through movement and I’ve seen him absolutely cook people and make them melt like ice cream in the sun, hence why I had “the chef” embroidered on his blue belt. Max was the fastest person I’ve promoted to blue belt and now just a month shy of his 20th birthday he is the fastest person I’ve promoted to purple belt. Congratulations kid, I’m super proud of you, you make my job easy, and it’s been a honor to be your first jiujitsu coach. Thanks for helping with our kid’s program, thanks for getting our name out there through competition, and thanks for all the entertainment as you’ve become a human highlight reel in our stories. Believe in yourself because sky is the limit, good luck in Oregon 🫡

“A woman is like a tea bag, you never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water.”- Eleanor Roosevelt

Huge congratulations to Kelcie on being the first female to be promoted here at Peace Garden Grappling Club! Out of all the students that train here she is without a doubt one of the most consistent people on the mats whether it is training, helping with the kids class, using her medical skills, and making our gatherings even more hospitable by making food for everyone. Your work on and off the mats doesn’t go unnoticed. You can trust her with your life….just not with your corn dogs unattended 🤣.

No lies told, Gable trains here at the garden 😎.

Me: I wanna get some wrestling shoes at the Fargo dome and have Waylon sign them

Noah Cressell : don’t buy any because when Waylon wins he gets a free pair of shoes.

A couple days later he won Freestyle AND Greco and if that wasn’t impressive enough he became 1 of 10 people to become a triple crown winner (Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco). Congrats Waylon and thank you for gifting me these sick JB 1 Neon Surge wrestling kicks, it’s not everyday day you get to see a master in their craft. I’m looking forward to seeing you do all the things you set your mind to in college at the University of Northern Iowa.

One of the most important things I learned in jiujitsu wasn’t anything technique related, it was a quote and the quote was “if you can’t train then help, and if you can’t help then watch”. Justin embodies this quote, because even through injury he still chooses to come in daily at 5:30 am just to learn and help his team mates. Congratulations on your blue belt Justin and thanks for helping out Drew Curtis Simmons with the morning classes.

Are you a dad? Are you struggling to balance time between work, family, and leisure? Do you wake up early but need a new hobby? Do you need to let off some steam because your fantasy teams failed you…..again. If this is you then come join our 5:30 AM classes with coach Drew & Joe!

Congrats to the biggest anime nerd on earning the mighty blue belt yesterday. I’m super proud of this guy for coming in with goals and using his mat time to play vs trying not to get submitted and that’s always a great sign to a coachable student. I call Damon “Chief” but his indigenous name translates to “Steals the enemy’s horse”. He’s got a fight lined up soon so keep an eye out or purchase a ticket to see him throw down on a future Throne MMA card.

I’m a firm believer that we meet people on purpose and not by accident. I’ve crossed paths with this guy twice before we officially met (watching him wrestle in college & watching him coach my old highschool wrestling team) and I’d like to say thank you for taking a chance on a gym that was one year in, taking guidance from a no name black belt in a place people only recognize from a movie/tv series (Fargo) , assisting me by being my uke (demo partner) in class & for our videos, offering to assist the team without asking, giving our gym some exposure through competitions, and getting me out of the house to utilize my PTO.

I’m proud of the work we have put in and seeing it evolve in practice & throughout competition without a single training camp, just consistent work day by day/position by position. It has been an honor to be your first jiujitsu coach and I can’t wait for the world to see what we have already knew all along.

Also huge congratulations to Waylon on winning the Fargo Nationals Greco & Freestyle tournament and being only 1 of 10 people triple crown. Thanks for shoes, I can’t wait to watch you compete at the University of Northern Iowa.

P.S. Huge shout out to .blaedorn for strangling Noah multiple times in a row when he first came in which ended up lighting a fire under him to get that competitive itch back 🤣

We had a great time at submission challenge. We had 4 kids & 4 adults compete today and for 6 of them it was their very first competition and win or lose we are very proud of how they performed and listened under pressure. Congrats to everyone who competed and thanks to the squad, family, and friends who came to show roaring support.
