“Having worked in Bolley this summer, I’ve already seen one of the facility’s greatest strengths: it naturally brings people together,” said Cameron Matthews, a Ph.D. candidate in plant sciences and graduate research fellow in the barley breeding program.

This week, NDSU celebrated the opening of the Bolley Agricultural Laboratory, marking a major milestone for agricultural research and education.

The new facility brings together researchers, students and faculty working across plant pathology, plant breeding, w**d science, agronomy, soil science and horticulture, creating more opportunities to collaborate, share ideas and develop solutions for the challenges facing agriculture.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony brought together university leaders, faculty, staff, students, elected officials, donors, community members and members of the Bolley family to celebrate the facility and its future impact.

NDSU graduate student Hunter Gallagher recently reached a major milestone in her master's research project, successfully harvesting cabbage from a study exploring how intercropping onions and cabbage can naturally reduce insect pests.

By evaluating four different onion cultivars, Hunter is researching whether onions can help deter cabbage pests while maintaining cabbage quality and yield, advancing sustainable crop production practices.

A big thank you to Dr. Harlene Hatterman-Valenti, Collin Auwater, and the members of Dr. Prischmann-Voldseth's lab for helping make harvest a success!

Start the afternoon with free expert-led gardening seminars (advance registration required), then head outdoors to the NDSU Horticulture Research and Demonstration Gardens for an evening of blooming daylilies, guided garden tours, educational booths and gardening experts ready to answer your questions.

Celebrate 10 years of Veggies for the Pantry, an NDSU Extension Master Gardener project that has donated more than 130,000 pounds of fresh produce to local food pantries. Bring canned or fresh produce to help mark this milestone!
