BORKLYN ZOO | SCHABERNACK: SALZSTREUER

The Borklyn Zoo boys are back with the newest episode of their popular Schabernack video series. This week, they went skating at the classic Dortmund ledges and also had some quick sessions on a few street spots made famous by Eugen, as seen in many of his legendary profiles. For decades, aggressive inline skating has existed largely outside of the formal structures that govern many of the world’s biggest sports. While the talent, creativity & passion within our community have never been in doubt, building the kind of international framework required for broader or “legit” recognition has often felt out of reach. That’s why Blading Cup Asia becoming a World Skate Challenger Series event should have the scene buzzing. Not because it guarantees anything, but because it represents a genuine step forward & opens the door to possibilities that previously felt unrealistic. Much of that progress is down to decades of work from people who have dedicated themselves to pushing rollerblading forward, and few have done more in that regard than Jon Julio. Through Blading Cup, Them Skates, countless projects and decades of commitment to the sport, Jon has helped create platforms that have earned respect both within and beyond the community. His recent involvement with World Skate, the internationally recognised governing body for roller sports and the organisation that works with the IOC, marks an exciting development not just for Blading Cup, but for rollerblading as a whole. World Skate has hired Jon as a consultant, a sign that they want input from someone who comes directly from rollerblading culture rather than simply making decisions from the outside. At the same time, it’s important to understand what this moment is and what it isn’t. Becoming a sanctioned event isn’t the finish line and it certainly isn’t a shortcut to the Olympics. It brings new responsibilities, stricter requirements, increased costs and a significant amount of work behind the scenes. Creating the infrastructure needed for long-term growth requires investment, commitment and patience. Skating has never progressed by avoiding challenges. Every meaningful step forward has come from people willing to take risks, invest their time & resources, and believe in a bigger vision for the culture. The opportunity in front of us now feels significant, not because success is guaranteed, but because, for perhaps the 1st time in a long time, there is a clear pathway being discussed

JARO FRIJN PRO IQON ACT EDIT

IQON BRAND recently released their highly anticipated new pro skate for Jaro Frijn, and Jaro quickly got to work on his promotional video to show off his new rides. Jaro enlisted the filming talents of Rollo van Wijk, and the duo came back with a sleek highlight of Jaro’s diverse talents on skates, mixed in with picturesque scenery and lifestyle shots for a very professional and eye-catching promo.

CHECKING IN WITH SARA LOHJELM

The Finnish Blader Sara Lohjelm ( ) has made quite a name for herself over the last few years, earning a massive social media following, inspiring bladers from all over the globe, and picking up sponsorships from brands such as , , and .

On this particular day, Sara met up with our staff photographer, , at the Léon Cladel Skatepark, located in Paris, France. Kiara had the opportunity to shoot Sara during this skate session and got to know Sara more personally during the visit.
