One of my dreams was to be able to go to Claiborne Farms to visit Secretariat's grave. Looks like now that is not to be for me ever, but I am blessed to be able to care for two of his offspring: Diamond and Missy. These mares have been at the Sanctuary for many years and are much loved by all. Today is North Texas Giving Day and if you are wondering which charity to help with a donation, please consider GoldStar Horse Rescue and Sanctuary - home to 60 horses including Diamond and Missy. We need help for veterinary, hay, feed and farrier care and your donation would go a long way. It is easy to donate. Just go to northtexasgivingday.org, click on Donate and choose GoldStar Horse Rescue and Sanctuary. Your help is appreciated! Thank you for caring!

We had a scare today with our George. At noon when he came in for his dinner, Betsy noticed he was not himself - not eating, pawing. We suspected colic. Judi administered banamine and Betsy and Kitt walked him. Called Dr. Holt as it was not getting better and he came and confirmed colic. and that he was impacted. George was tubed with mineral oil and we are hoping this will take care of his problem tonight. It has been so difficult lately at the Sanctuary especially with my broken hip. Trying to be optimistic but sometimes it is difficult. We are hoping for better days. North Texas Giving Day is rapidly approaching and early giving is open now. If you are able to contribute to The Sanctuary as your charity this year we would be grateful for every dollar. You can go to the North Texas Giving Day site and choose us as your charity and make your donation that way. Always available are the following ways:
Venmo: -hines-1
Zelle: [email protected]
Paypal: [email protected]

Thank you very much to everyone who helped care for our George today.

We lost our beautiful Appaloosa mare, Kaye today. Kaye has been with us many years and was a favorite for her loving personality and gentle demeaner. Kaye was 27 year old and has suffered with several medical problems. She has been treated for EPM and the last several months suffered with laminitis. Many thanks for the loving care our farrier Daniel has given her, and to Dr. Holt who came this afternoon to help Kaye across the Rainbow Bridge. We will miss our mare but know that she is pain free now.

The Sanctuary offers its heartfelt condolences to our own Bethany in the loss of her beloved dog, Sage. Sage was 15 years old and a faithful companion to Bethany and visited the Sanctuary many times, even helping to bring horses in! Rocket, a favorite of Bethany and friend of Sage offers condolences on behalf of the horses. Sage is buried at the Sanctuary next to the arena where she can watch Bethany teach her many lessons. Many thanks to Uriel and Ramon for their assistance in the burial.
