Help Brandi Becker-Wright fight Alzheimer's on The Longest Day! 08/28/2025

There are only 3 DAYS LEFT to donate for this year’s Kicking Grass, Ending ALZ fundraiser and I’ve currently raised a total of $2,940!

This is AMAZING but my 💜 wants $3,000 so bad and we are SO close!

Any last minute donors want to put us over the edge for the last $60?

These funds help:
- support programs and services for people with cognitive impairment and their caregivers in your local communities
- fund research efforts looking for better treatments, preventions, and a cure
- advocacy efforts across local communities and the US to push for funding, bills, laws, etc that are so desperately needed to help us survive caring for our aging population

During our recent fundraiser, our generous winner Sarah chose to 𝘱𝘢𝘺 𝘪𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥—offering the blanket back to help raise even more support for our cause. 💜

So we’re giving YOU a second chance to win it!

Sarah says, “I’m thrilled that I won the raffle and the beautiful throw that Brandi made with such love, but I think there is more to do. With that, I want to honor my lovely mom, my smart brother, and my dear special friend who have all been touched by this disease. The Alzheimer’s Association is vital in all aspects from research to care to support. With this in mind I would like Brandi to offer it up again in memory and in honor of our loved ones - would you please help to support? Thank you!”

Yesterday’s Kicking Grass, Ending ALZ event was such a success!

It was a HOT day, but the donations came in equally as hot, and we surpassed our goal, at $2,585 (cash donations not yet reflected on the page)!

I also personally played my best game of the season, which felt great coming off my back surgery last year! The Magic snuck out a late win against a tough team!

THANK YOU doesn’t cover the love and support you all continue to show this event year after year. We are making a difference.

Just yesterday, the biggest scientific meeting of all the Alzheimer’s minds, the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC), kicked off as well. Tons of new information will be coming out on the latest research on medications, testing, prevention, and all things brain health. These dollars help make all of this happen!

That’s all for now. More to come! (This post has been rambling because I’m exhausted!)

Tomorrow, during our Kicking Grass, Ending ALZ soccer game we will shine a light on these individuals who have been affected by Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia. Their photos, along with the name of the person recognizing them, will be up on photo boards around our tent at the game and in the tent in a binder.

SO MANY of us have been touched by dementia, and the numbers are only expected to grow.

Currently, more than 7 million people in the US are living with Alzheimer’s. But by the year 2060, barring any breakthroughs in prevention or a cure, it is anticipated that the number of people with Alzheimer’s will reach 13.8 million.

Tomorrow we will honor those lost, recognize those affected, fight for those to come. We will raise awareness for this cause until we achieve our mission of a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.

To help us get there, please share and donate at act.alz.org/goto/kickinggrass

Coming at you this Sunday game day with another dementia fact.

The lifetime risk for Alzheimer’s at age 45 is 1 in 5 for women and 1 in 10 for men.

Women are so disproportionately affected by dementia, not only by being diagnosed more often, but they are also more likely to take on a caregiver role for someone else!

Ladies, your donations are helping to push forward the research efforts to figure this thing out. And to support the people and families going through it RIGHT NOW!

Don’t fret about it, do something about it.

Did you know?

There are currently 202,800 people in MI over age 65 living with Alzheimer’s disease.

And, given our current population of people over age 65, that equals about 1 in 9-10 who are diagnosed. 😲

Looking for a way to help? Be a light in the darkness of Alzheimer’s and join our fight as we Kick Grass, End ALZ again this year! Any donation is greatly appreciated and we need your help!

Did you know that June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month? True!

So many people wonder what they can do to try to prevent Alzheimer's and dementia. The sad truth is, age alone is our biggest risk factor. But there are many things you can do that are neuro-protective!

Some of these things include getting regular physical aerobic exercise (like playing soccer!), doing mentally stimulating and challenging activities, being socially active, getting good sleep, eating a healthy balanced diet, and taking care of your overall health/managing cardiovascular risk factors such as cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugars!

Research has shown time and time again that people who focus on these things can often delay the onset of dementia, and those with cognitive impairment who prioritize these activities tend to slow their progression.
