11 years ago this week, a dozen amazing 12-year-old boys from Metropolitan Detroit competed against 103 baseball teams from throughout the United States and won the storied Cooperstown Dreams Park tournament.

Before the first game, I told the boys they could shave my head if they ended the week as champions. Five days later, they were 11-0, collectively hit 66 home runs ... and more importantly ... had made some memories that will hopefully last them and their families a lifetime.

A little over a decade later, some of that hair has grown back, the "boys" have grown up, and I couldn't be prouder of the men they've become!

Former Warriors Baseball Club of Michigan player Andrew Abler is back home for the summer and will be playing for the Royal Oak Leprechauns in the very competitive Northwoods League. Several games will be on ESPN+ with home games at Memorial Park in Royal Oak, and road trips to Traverse City Pit Spitters, Kalamazoo Growlers, Battle Creek Battle Jacks and other games into Wisconsin, Indiana and Illinois. It's a really fun environment and I encourage you to get out to game in Royal Oak (they serve beer)! We don't know when he will pitch or when he will travel.

After helping his HS team win the D1 state championship last year, he had a solid good season in his first year of D1 baseball at Harvard. He got on the map on opening day relieving a likely MLB draft pick with a great outing vs #22 Troy (allowed 1 hit in 4IP to the top offense in the NCAA at the time). Recorded his first NCAA win at the Citadel, first start against Holy Cross, and quality outings against WCU, Penn and Yale. A minor injury shut him down for a month or he would have had more innings, but he came back to finish with 2 outings without allowing a run and only 1 infield hit. Final stats were 9 appearances, 15.1 IP, 14K, 4.70 ERA and a 0.170 Batting Average Against which is exceptional. He was named Ivy League Player of the Week Honorable Mention three separate times as a freshman.

He's looking forward to summer ball, while also doing an internship at Tread Athletics, helping out the Novi HS Baseball team and teaching pitching lessons in the Novi area. Hope to see you this summer at the ball park!

The Warriors Baseball Club of Michigan's 11-year-old Orange team gave their moms seven dubs, zero losses, and their championship rings yesterday after defeating the Detroit Metro Stars 6-5 to win the Michigan Monster tournament in Howell.

Warrior moms rock and jewelry is always the perfect Mother's Day gift!
