Farmington Hall of Honor Spotlight: Floyd O. Shelley
FARMINGTON, Ark. — Farmington Public Schools and Farmington Athletics are proud to announce Floyd O. Shelley as a member of the 2026 Farmington Hall of Honor Induction Class. Shelley will be formally recognized during the Hall of Honor Induction Banquet on Wednesday, September 23, at 6:00 p.m. at Cardinal Arena.
Shelley’s story as a Cardinal began in the spring of 1970, when his family moved to Farmington. For Shelley, the move to a small community would have a lasting impact on his life. He began playing football for Farmington in the eighth grade, and his teams went undefeated over the next two seasons, setting the stage for an outstanding high school career.
As a sophomore in 1973, Shelley became part of one of the most memorable teams in Farmington football history. The Cardinals completed a perfect 12-0 season and captured the Class B State Championship. Shelley remembers that championship team as a “well-oiled machine,” with players working together toward a common goal.
The success continued during his junior season in 1974. Farmington again established itself as a conference powerhouse, winning the Ozark Conference Championship and advancing to the state playoffs. Shelley earned All-Conference honors that season. He was also part of Farmington’s basketball program, which captured a district championship that year.
As a senior in 1975, Shelley helped lead the Cardinals to another Ozark Conference Championship and a run through the state playoffs. Individually, he capped his Farmington football career by earning All-Conference and All-State honors and being named the Conference Most Valuable Player.
His accomplishments earned him the opportunity to represent Farmington on one of the state’s biggest stages. In the summer of 1976, Shelley was selected to participate in the East-West All-Star Football Game at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.
Playing tight end and serving as a field-goal kicker, Shelley accounted for six points — one field goal and three extra points — as the West defeated an East squad led by Houston Nutt.
Although football was his passion, Shelley was a multi-sport Cardinal. He also competed in basketball and track, earning recognition in several events during his time at Farmington.
For Shelley, however, his Hall of Honor career cannot be measured simply by championships, individual awards or statistics. He credits his teammates and the lessons he learned through athletics with shaping the person he became.
Shelley spent 28 years working in and managing an auto glass business, becoming a part owner during his final seven years there. In 2008, he began another chapter of service to the community when he went to work for the City of Farmington. He spent 17 years with the city before retiring in 2025 as Public Works Manager.
Today, Floyd and his wife, Tammie, have been married for 46 years. They have two adult children, Brooke Spradlin and her husband Steven, and Brian Shelley, along with seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
From an undefeated junior high football player to a State Champion, Conference MVP, All-State selection and East-West All-Star, and later a longtime servant of the Farmington community, Floyd O. Shelley represents the history, tradition and community spirit the Farmington Hall of Honor was created to celebrate.
