You can have a great training program and still feel like you’re spinning your wheels.

What happens in the gym is only part of the equation.

Your body also needs enough sleep to recover. Enough food to rebuild. And a lifestyle that supports the work you’re asking it to do.

Training creates stress—and that’s a good thing when your body has the resources to adapt to it.

That’s why at Yankee Fitness Company, we don’t just talk about sets, reps and workouts. We talk about sleep, nutrition, stress, recovery and what’s happening outside the gym, too.

The goal isn’t just to exercise more. It’s to build a body—and a lifestyle—that can keep doing the things you want it to do.

It’s easy to blame the last rep—the one where your back started hurting, your shoulder felt something, or your knee suddenly didn’t feel right.

But that rep is rarely the whole story.

Your body is managing load all day long: training, work, stress, sleep, recovery, old injuries and everything else life asks of you.

When that total load exceeds your body’s capacity to handle it, that’s when problems can show up.

The answer isn’t simply to do less. We can reduce unnecessary load and build more capacity through strength, better movement, recovery and smart programming.

The goal isn’t to make your life smaller. It’s to build the capacity to keep doing what you love.

That’s what we train for at Yankee.

That’s what we’re here to help you do.

Meet Jim. He’s 62 years old, a Lieutenant at Tunxis Hose Company No. 1, and the oldest active firefighter at his station.

What’s wild is that Jim didn’t even start firefighting until he was 57. He’s been training with us for a decade now, and he credits that foundation for giving him the ability to start such a demanding career later in life and stay injury-free.

Even though he’s the veteran on the squad, the younger guys actually call him “kid” because he’s always the first one volunteering to climb the trucks or head up the ladders.

For Jim, this training is about more than just hitting the gym—it’s about:
• Longevity: Staying active in the fire department for as long as he wants to be there.
• Performance: Being able to do the job effectively.
• Paying it forward: He eventually wants to help train other first responders—police, EMTs, and firefighters—to stay fit for the specific demands of their jobs.
If you’ve been hesitant about starting your own fitness journey, take a page out of Jim’s book. It doesn’t matter what stage you’re at; you just have to take that first small step.

Just show up. We’ll take care of the rest.

Today isn’t about what we have to do.
It’s about remembering the people who gave everything so we get to live the lives we have.

We get to move.
We get to train.
We get to take care of our bodies.
We get to build a future our families can rely on.

A lot of people never got that chance.

So today isn’t about perfection or pressure — it’s about gratitude.
Honor the people who can’t be here by taking care of the body and the life you still get to live.

Do you know how to perform RDL’s properly?

Let’s find out 👇

Before we tell you how to do them … here’s what should not happen when you do RDL’s

❌Low back pain on every rep
❌ Being scared every rep of hurting your back
❌Feeling it in the front or you legs instead of the back of your legs

If anything of those things are occurring …. probably because you aren’t doing one of these things below correctly 👇

To correctly perform an RDL..
âś…Feet Hip-width apart
âś…Shoulders back
âś…Dumbbells or barbell as close your body as humanly possible
âś…Push your hips back as far back towards the wall behind you until they stop moving
✅When they stop moving back you should feel a stretch in the back of your legs… this is when you come back up

Do you have any other RDL tip ? Let us know in the comments below !

The little details matter. The slightest tweak can make the biggest impact on how a movement feels and which muscles it is targeting. Coach Sean teaches one of our clients to bend their knees and lean back in order to make the movement more efficient. This allows the muscles of the quads to do more work and lets the muscular of the upper body take a back seat. This is where coaching makes all the difference. Someone can do an exercise wrong for years without even realizing it!
