🏈MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: MEET DOM!🏈

If you’ve met Dom, you already know he brings some serious energy to Calypso. But there’s a LOT more to this guy than what you see in the gym.

Dom is a business owner, former dolphin trainer and marine mammal educator, and studied Vet-Med/Animal Science at the U of M. Oh, and he also played professional football for the Indianapolis Colts and NFL Europa with the Berlin Thunder 🪓 and Frankfurt Galaxy 🌌

He found his way to CrossFit Calypso at the end of February 2025 after meeting the one and only Kiel & Jenny Bormann in the sauna at LifeTime. His buddy Dustin from Cincinnati was also looking great doing CrossFit, which helped spark his interest.

His current CrossFit nemeses?
Muscle-ups and handstand walks.
He can’t do either… YET.

Dom’s goals are all about the long game: improving his movement, fitness and physique, competing in some smaller competitions, chasing the big dawgs in WODs, taking on Hero WODs—and, in his own words, “I will never be a Fat Ass Dad again.”

And here’s a pretty cool family fact: his youngest brother, Jericho Sims, plays in the NBA and had a triple-double this season with the Milwaukee Bucks. 🏀

Also, Dom is the 2nd shortest of five brothers… at 6’2”.

We’re pumped to have you as part of the Calypso crew, Dom. Keep chasing those goals—and we’ll see you when you finally get that muscle-up🙌🏻

Train hard. Recover on purpose. 💪

The work doesn’t stop when the workout ends. Sleep, nutrition, and mobility are what help you come back stronger and ready for the next one.

Coach Thad breaks down the recovery basics every athlete should prioritize.

“Do this. I’ll time you.”

And somehow we pay money for it.

CrossFit: where getting sweaty, getting stronger, and doing ridiculous things with your friends somehow becomes the best part of your day.

🇺🇸 9/11 HERO WORKOUT 🇺🇸

2,977 reps. One for every life lost.

Teams of 4 will come together to honor the lives, the heroes, and the sacrifices of September 11, 2001.

We remember. We honor. We work.

Never forget. ❤️🤍💙

More isn’t always better. Recovery is part of the work. 💪

Train hard. Recover well. Repeat.

Rest days aren’t slowing your progress—they’re what make progress sustainable.

Strong for years, not just weeks. 🖤💚

🇺🇸 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: MEET CHRIS 🇺🇸

26 years in the Army will teach you a few things: discipline, accountability, resilience, and the importance of having a solid team beside you.

For Chris, that team mentality started long before the Army. Born and raised in Minnesota, he grew up playing just about every sport before focusing on hockey. Team sports taught him early that you’re better when you work together—and that lesson eventually played a big role in his decision to join the Army at 18.

He’s been serving for the last 26 years, and that same mindset is one of the reasons CrossFit stuck.

Chris started CrossFit about 10 years ago, took a couple breaks, and eventually realized that doing his own thing at a regular gym wasn’t cutting it. The accountability disappeared, the structure disappeared, and apparently so did the motivation.

So he came back. And this time, he’s here to stay.

Give him a good chipper, anything involving squats or cleans, or better yet, a team workout, and he’s happy. Add structured programming, people who hold you accountable, and a sick playlist—and you’ve got Chris in his element.

And because apparently his idea of a normal high school job was already slightly unhinged…

Fun fact: Chris spent his high school years helping train police dogs by hiding in buildings and letting them bite him while wearing a bite sleeve.

So yeah… we’re not exactly worried about him being afraid of a little discomfort.

26 years of service. A lifetime of team sports. 10 years of CrossFit. And still showing up, putting in the work, and getting stronger.

We’re damn glad you’re on our team, Chris!

Sometimes it do be like that.

Lift heavy. Question everything. Lose count.

Do it again tomorrow😂
